Live Rabbits ?

Recommended Posts

Help & Advice wanted.

I have several permissions to control Rabbits, vermin etc, on one in particular it was a great shoot but about 15 years ago it was decimated by Maxi and has never recovered. I haven`t seen a rabbit in the area for about 12 years.

I would like to introduce some back into the area and have the ok from the farmer. Its mainly forestry and pasture which he isn`t interested in.

I am completely green in these matters and firstly is this legal? If it is I`ll need a competent ferreter who can supply maybe a dozen Rabbits.

Timing! Is this best done now or in the spring?

And cost how much does a wild Rabbit cost?

I look forward to reading the comments from you lads.

PS. I meant to add I use an Air Rifle and have over 25 years experience.

Hi

Somewhere on THL is a thread about this type of question, see if u can find it,it was interesting to say the least and went on for weeks,

I don't know what I think on the matter to be honest, exept I doubt my permissions would be keen on the idea mate, but each to their own good luck and atb on the attention it may bring from other member lol

Cheers 223

I think it is illegal to Catch rabbits and release them elsewhere, be carefully what you openly discuss on a forum!

No it's not.. It's only illegal to capture and release an invasive species like the grey squirrel & mink.. This topic has been done lots of times and had input from guys who know the relevant legislation inside out..

Is a rabbit not an invasive species and a pest :hmm:

It's classed as a plague species so it's deffo a pest. It's also been here that long (since Roman times at least) I guess it isn't classed as an invasive species. If something isn't specifically legislated against, then it remains legal and as far as anybody could make out there's no legislation which prohibits the release of a captured rabbit, fox or any other native British mammal.
