pump or 3lr air bottle

hey looking in to geting a pcp to fill do i get a pump or a 3lr air bottle .

i got both if i shoot down to 100 i use the bottle if not the pump to be honest all the folks that bang on about pumps bein hard work are either lazy or really unfit i find them a piece of piss and i aint no spring chicken. at least with the pump you all ways have a source of free air.

I have a bottle and that IS because I'm lazy!! I would go for bottle if you can easily have it refilled, but as Fry has said a pump can easily get you out shooting again without having to leave the field or range!

I got a 3L bottle when I got my first PCP set up, the bloke in the shop told me some pumps allow moisture into the gun which can lead to nasty problems, so if you opt for a pump it might be a idea to try get one with the filters on it. Both cost around the same new, but as said pumps are free air after. I pay £5 for a bottle fill at the divers shop

Agreed about the effort it takes to fill with a pump! it's a bit of a faff if you're filling from totally empty, but if you keep the air within - or close to - the optimum pressure range, it only takes five minutes tops! I have an Air Arms S510 that is 200bar pressure, but the power drops off after about 100bar and about 60 odd shots. you're never going to run a gun to empty as you'll lose the power so almost always you're looking at just topping up...

I've filled my S10's air bottle from scratch to 230 via a pump 3 times in three days before, due to a leak... not something I would want to do regularly! Apart from that, the Hills pump I have is great and as already mentioned, only takes 5 mins to fill after 60 or so shots. My S410 TDR takes far less effort, so I guess the higher the fill pressure the more the effort.

 

Pumps give air on tap, with out the hassle of finding a fill, in my case about 35 miles away, but I can totally understand those that prefer tanks.

For a small cylinder, the pump is fine - auld boy has a pump for his HW100KT, fills in no time.

 

I use a 7L cylinder most of the time but the pump is still perfectly viable for my machine (HW100T FAC).

 

If you've something with a bigger cylinder though, I'd definitely go with the bottle.
