jigsaw 11,863
Took a fall testerday and disaster struck.I was out after a few goats and after a long hike walked right into them,so I laid down and took aim and down went the first goat. The herd consisted of roughly 20-30 animals and after the shot they took a run and didnt go too far.So I crept along staying low and as I got up neare them again I moved to the side to get a better position, the only problem was I went too far to the side and not taking notice I went straight over the side down a ridge. It was roughly 20 ft and I hit the broken and felled trees with a slap.....gun in hand.I heard the crack and wasnt sure if itwas my bones or the trees under me but it was neither,it was the stock of the gun.I snaped the gun in half.I realise I was very lucky and was relatively unhurt but I was well pissed off when I saw the gun.I had just got it back from geting some fine work done to it too.I'll try and upload a photo of the damage and see what ye think. To say im gutted is an understatement.Whats your view on this.New stock obviously,so I might give Boyds stocks a shout. Quote Link to post
JohnGalway 1,043
Fair enough, 20foot fall is a fair enough drop. Couple of weeks ago a fella dropped a brand new Beretta shotgun 1 (that's one) foot, stock snapped almost in the same place. It could have been worse, could have damaged or broken scope etc. Quote Link to post
Carraghs Gem 1,675
your having a bad run of luck lately, real shame about the stock, hope your luck changes soon Quote Link to post
Malt 379
Jesus Liam, you'd have no luck if it wasn't for bad luck pal. At least you didn't damage yourself, you're not long back on your feet.. Quote Link to post
jigsaw 11,863
tell me about it Mal,lol. My luck will probably change soon gemm,to bloody worse luck lol.In fairness though,Ive been trapesing around these hills for nigh on 2 years now and thats the first stupi thing ive done,(well up there anyway).I saw a mate put his foot into a bog hole and sink to his bollix in black gunge and the temperature at the time was -5 degrees. His foot went a funny shade of grey.I sat up after the fall and there was a thick branch pointing towards the sky and if I'd went a foot over to the left, that would have run straight through me I reckon.I was extremely lucky......even though I was very unlucky if you get my drift I suppose theres no point in trying to repair it,is there?Replacement is the only answer? Strong Stuff 2,171
I've repaired an air rifle stock in the past that as bad as that, but it was only a gay little 12ft/lb one, not sure I'd be taking the chance with a mans gun! When I did mine, I used a dowel and cascamite wood glue, don't use bostik hahaha. Quote Link to post

Yokel Matt 918
Ouch! Rather the rifle stock than breaking your leg though hey. Is there an epoxy drop-in available for your rifle model? Wouldn't look as nice but would be less than a new set up. Quote Link to post
jigsaw 11,863
What exaactly is an epoxy drop in Y Matt? Quote Link to post
Yokel Matt 918
I'm thinking of the McMillan style stock blank which you can get the action bedded into. I know my Remi 700 slots into Hogue stocks with little (if any) gunsmithing required but the remi is a common rifle. Quote Link to post
