More Foxing... with some XXXXX on the side....

Had a phone call from a Farmer mate today who was about to 'retire' a number of his laying flock. The birds arn't that old, 15 months or so, but have done their bit and are now considered over the hill. I mentioned to him that i'd like a few to add to my small flock of layers and this was the call to come and pick some. Its been nice and sunny here today so I popped the rimfire and .223 in the car for a quick look about whilst I was there.

 

Managed 5 xxxxxx before it got dark and the poultry put themselves to bed. I paunched them out in a specific part of a field I planned of sweeping later with the lamp and went to select a few hens. After picking three nice ones and having a brew with the farmer I saddled up with the .223 and went for a quick flick round the fields. The usual hot-spot was out of bounds as there was a bonfire and fireworks going off within view and I didn't want some over-protective dad rolling his sleves up and storming accross the field.

 

Just over a 5-Bar gate and there were some eyes, briefly, as the owner was racing away in the opposite direction, muct have been pretty close to the gate as I was getting over it. I did a couple of loud squeeks and managed to stop it at the far end of the field. It was wired and very wary of the call but still curious enough to come and investigate, skirting round to try and get my wind. It stopped at around meters and I wacked her broadside in the chest. Numero-uno.

 

 

Next to the baited spot not far from where I was. After getting set on the sticks a flicked the lamp in the approximate spot and voila! A fox was busily chowing down the tripes and was almost too busy to look up. The lamp was hardly on him but more that enough to see him clearly and that was a brace. He'd wolfed down pretty much the whole lot and there was only a few chunks left. Rather him than me. A big dog fox you can see where the bait was in the pic.

 

 

So there we are - I hope the fox pic's and those of shot RABBITS don't offend anyone - noble quarry that they both are.

Yes very observant,however they are lagamorphs so surely the same arguments and sneid comments from the terminally ill informed should ensue

Cheers all - Less grief when it comes for rabbits it would seem

 

I asked the farmer about the deer. He's seen a pair around but his beef still has the run of the place and I didn't see any They'll be off and in the sheds soon hopefully so they'll be back Saw plenty of rabbits about on the lamp which had a tendancy to squat... speak later.

Plenty of hares this way have shot quite a few!

Also had over 55 foxes in about 4 weeks earlier this year with the 223
