born ferreter 1
hi there, i have been shooting with my bsa supersport in .177 for a while now shot a few rabbits and 5 ferrals around one of my permissions last month. it is fitted with a hawke endurence scope at 3-10x44 mag, i was using aa feild but the shots were getting irrattic so i bought some cleaning pellets to fire down the barrel and that helped but i have run out of them pellets so im currently using eiter flat headed pellets or some domed ones much like the aa diablo i think thats what they are called but the acurracy isnt to great at the moment any tips on how to get it back up? in the photo is me the gun a jackdaw a skemmy and a small rat on the right thanks lewis Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
How many shots have you put through it since cleaning? Can take up to 50 or 60 to get things accurate again! Secondly what size diablo? BSA guns prefer the 5.52 or 5.53. I found that Crosman Premier Magnums work very well in BSA guns... Quote Link to post
born ferreter 1
im not sure how many but its had about a 1000 pellets through it around 50-100 each session, i try to put the cleaning pellets though after 200 shots? or when the acurracy starts to drop again Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
Only put them through when the accuracy drops again, Dont do it every 200, more like every 1000... Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
If you're talking about those felt cleaning pellets, DO NOT use them in a spring gun. It's almost as bad as dry firing them!! You'll wreck your rifle in the long term. You shouldn't need to clean your BSA's barrel after 2000 shots never mind 200 if you're using good quality pellets. If you were getting good results from AA Fields and suddenly they stopped performing, then the problem will almost certainly be down to your kit and not your ammo. Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
I thought it could be the fact that someone has swapped pellet sizes on him without him knowing, the BSA barrel does prefer a wider pellet on the whole! Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
Fair comment, Mike, but that tends to be more the case with .22 and not .177. Quote Link to post
born ferreter 1
so i should just stop with the felt pellets all together then? i think il get a few sample packs and just find whats good my my gun can never seem to get any accuracy at 30yards with any of the peets iv used thought this might of been down to the gun? secretagentmole 1,701
Fair comment, Mike, but that tends to be more the case with .22 and not .177. They do the various sizes in .177 as well... Lewis, Pack in the felt pellets, they are for PCP rifles, not spring or gas ram. Get yourself a set of Bisley cleaning rods, much better for the gun! Also once you have bought them you will still have them, unliek the £5 a box shoot once felt things! Get some wider pellets, 4.51 or 4.52mm, see if that has any effect, or try Crosman Premier Ultra Magnums, my BSA loves them! Edited November 7, 2011 by secretagentmole Quote Link to post

secretagentmole 1,701
Rare, lol! They are not one of the more common rifles. Darned good, pellet on pellet, now runs at 232 bar not 200, better stock, nice ambi stock, beautiful little rifle. Mary loves her .177. Might I also suggest you look at Pianomans thread.... http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/182473-spring-air-rifle-shooting/page__fromsearch__1 Just do as he advises... andyfr1968 772
Mike, the barrels in the older Brummy built BSAs were a British made one, unlike the ones they use now in their PCPs (not their Spanish springers) which are I believe are Walther. I think the Supersport use's the same Spanish barrel as the Lightning on which it is based, so you're not comparing like with like. All the older .22 British barrels were 5.6mm and not the European 5.5. There was never a specific issue with .177 Lewis.... Check your kit over, make sure all that needs to be tight is tight. I don't see a moderator in your pic, so I guess that's not an issue. Try a different scope if you can just in case and as Mike's said, try out as many different pellets as you can too. Not all guns like the same ammo. Good luck and let us know how you get on. Edited November 8, 2011 by andyfr1968 Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
I thought BSA were still making their barrels, well you learn something new every day... Quote Link to post
