My only experience of a "broken" dog, was my Bull X.   Had him out lamping one night, he did too much and blew up, cost me around £1300 (not insured either!) to save his life, and he was no use for

I would get the dog right then see if I could find the right type of person to home it with, if I couldnt I would have it PTS.........if it meant a lot of suffering for the animal in order to get it r

I've held on to two dogs with serious injurys the first came good and despite her injury continued to work into her dotage. The second was a more serious injury resulting in the loss of a leg. Truth

I think if rehoming/giving to a rescue, it would be correct to fix the dog first. Not necessarily up to full fitness, but ensure all immediate medical costs are covered.

I am in the same predicamet with a reacouring wrist injury and am trying my hardest to find a pet home for a well behaved good natured lurcher bitch but the fear of some fookin idiot getting and breeding her i know i am only left with 2 options

Perhaps have her spayed and you won't have that worry?

Glad your doing good by her the only thing i can say is some long rest and she will still be capable of a rabbit or two iv seen a 3 legged retired greyhound take the odd rabbit all you can do is persavere and hope for the best but i would barely do a thing with her for 6 months then see how she comes on . As already said on here its a hunting forum so most lads would pts as a dog could live 15 years and thats a long time for a space to be taken up in a working kennel but in your situation with time and

=perseverence the bitch could turn out alright and any dog can catch rabbits aslong as you go about it properly . is she in another cast then ?

Whin- I get what your saying. Not everybody wants a dog that's out 5 nights a week. And it seems to me that if your not out working your dog every night your not welcome on here.

You told me at Selkirk that the pup wouldn't ever run again and she did.

I'm pretty sure she will run again.Everybody advice is welcomed but you ain't being adaptable. If somebody was our every night then I would agree get rid.

I'm not after another dog, don't have the room or the time. Thanks for all the offers on here and via pm. I'm going to stick

By the pup and see how it goes.

Fresh earth- she's not in a cast, it's a chip in the bone (not a greenstick fracture) missus took

Her the vets so I was getting 2nd hand info. Back Monday for more xrays to see where we go from there. Hopefully stay out of a cast.

Wasn't about my pup. Id already said what I wanted to. All your advice is welcome and doesn't fall on deaf ears but I'd rather

Stick to my guns.

fairplay for sticking to your guns with the pup ,but the answer to your question would be if a working bred pup had an injury bad enough to finish it's carer before it's starts the most of us would think it would be better to have it PTS because most of them might not have the ability to work but still has the drive to want to.sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind and there is plenty of substandard working dogs out there that would suit a pet home that will happily live as a pet rather than a dog that has to live as a pet and wants to work, hope the pups comes right for you and get to catch a few bunnies and keeps it's self happy
