My Rifle Isnt Shooting Well

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

As the title says got my air rifle out today do some plinking. I have a Hw 95k with a Hawke Nite-Eye 4-16-50 AO IR Scope couldnt get the pellet throught the same whole shooting at 30 feet or any where near, it seems to be randomly. not sure if its the pellets they dont seem to have any pellet lube on them, would that effect the flight of the pellets that much ??

any ideas guys

Thanks Mike

I would go with pellets first. In my experience Diablo Field's will be consistent in any HW....not so cheap at around 11 quid.

They also work well in my Brocock PCP pistol which is very sensitive to pelet quality.

Tried many pelets in my HW100 and 97, and the only one that gives me consistent pelet on pelet is the above.

I'v never resorted to lube unless I'm having a special nite in :tongue2:

I wonder why everyone lays blame on the pellets?

I'm still using pellets that I've had for over a year now

If you've not shot for a while, I'd put it down to the shooter before anything else.

Why?

Because I know that when I've been shooting both a springer and indeed a pcp that when I've left one or the other for a couple of months or more (especially with my springers) that it takes a bit to get that consistent hold again

An example happened earlier this year! Last year I beat all in the comp organised by Davy, because I'd not shot since very early this year where did I place?

W A Y D O W N at the bottom, I was using the same rifle, same pellets, yet even the juniors using springer beat the crap out of my scores.

Similar happened when I returned for a session with a springer. After a good few months of not shooting it, I took it down to the paddock, set up my cards, and spent the next 4 hours tightening up my grouping from about 4 inches down to sub 1.5 inches the following day I got them back to sub 1inch at 30 yards.

My advice is carry on plinking for a few more hours, if the groups don't tighten up then look at something else

I am with Tony on this. I came back to shooting after a nigh on 7 year break and assumed I was going to be as good as when I was doing comps and teaching shooting before I stopped..............Just made my self look a total plonker in front of the bunnies till it dawned on me. 150 pellets later and I am nearly there again:)

The same for me to be honest, i've put something like 3 tins of pellets through my 80 over the last 3 weeks and steadily improved, saying that i went out feeling a bit rough (self inflicted) and couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo.

I've also noticed an improvement with my new Taipan scope giving me a nice clear view @ 16x. Managed a sub inch and quarter group at just over 50 yards yesterday.

Atb Chris.
