JohnGalway 1,043
Hi folks, Please take a read of the below petition and sign up This will put Firearms law into one place, make it easier to read, and shine a light on the bits that are currently broken. The FCP can then hopefully help to fix those broken bits. http://www.contact.ie/petition/we-wish-call-review-firearms-act-and-have-remit-firearms-consultation-panel-extended Thanks, ATB, John. It won't make firearms easier or harder to license, nor will it relax any current law or make any new laws. This is the current situation below: "Firearms law in Ireland is currently spread across 19 Acts, 2 EU directives and well over 60 Statutory Instruments, before case law and the Garda Commissioner's guidelines are taken into account...... Since 2006 - since which time three acts, approximately twenty statutory instruments and an EU directive have been added" Plainly said, that's a shit load of documents which makes finding out relevant and proper information regarding firearms unduly awkward and confusing. What a "restatement" basically does is to clean the document mess up, put it into one place and make it easier to read. It doesn't change any laws, just makes the law easier to find and read. The FCP then was put together for a specific purpose. It doesn't have any legislative power, but it can "advise" the powers that be on issues relating to shooting. Without it, there would be less of a conversation between the powers that be and us little people. And we can't be having that As I said, they can only advise, not "tell". They're both worthwhile things to do. Quote Link to post
