after all these years

Recommended Posts

my family home has been sold.Nearly 200 years of occupation by my family and its now gone.I handed in the keys yesterday to the sister and the auctioneer recieved them.My mother passed away 12 months ago and the house being unlived in,the decision was made to sell. Its a sickly feling I have.Near 50 years of my life wrapped up in the house,2 of those years spent caring for my mother till her death. The whole family are shook even though it was a unanimous decision to sell. Its like a death in the family again.Strange how bricks and mortar can have such an effect on one.Im a sentimental oul fool I suppose.Had all the memories flooding back from my childhood right through to the last few years, going to miss the neighbours too.It was one of the homes where the door was always opened and the neighbours just droped in at any time day or night,no questions asked,no reason needed. And it was the same with us,we just called in for a chat or to check on the elderly folk we grew up with.Happy days eh!

I think it was just the fact of disembowling the house that got to me,I walked out of an empty house that was never empty in all its exsistence,It was a shock to the system to see it empty, went into the hills this morn and had a good run about with the salukis so feeling better now,no more depressing thoughts :D
