How do you get a bayer?

Recommended Posts

I know nothing about terrier work but I've always wondered....how do you get a bayer? How do you know when you select a pup that it's going to be a bayer rather than a mixer? Is it just pot luck or do you go by how the parents perform and assume that the pup is going to take the same traits? I've seen threads that say most russells are bayers but then have seen old pics of russells that are clearly not bayers. Are there breeds of terrier that throw more bayers than others?

every pup is different buddy..... even if they are bred off hard worker to worker than you have just as much chance of getting a bayer from that litter as you are just as likely to get a hard dog from 2 bayers ..... every pup is wired different ... even when you breed of 2 well established terriers... shit some times they dont even work at all never mind even just bay lol atb

cheers bud.....so does that mean you can't really plan on getting a bayer? it's just you may or may not end up with one? the only way you could definitely get one is by getting one of someone who got a terrier hoping for a mixer and ended up with a bayer so wants rid?

Sorry if they're obvious questions by the way!!!

if it started as a hard dog and ended up a bayer isn't that jacking? or do I misunderstand the term?

i would say try to get a working pup and see how it turns out at the end of the day if it works you will be a happy man. and you will learn with the pup theres no right or wrong way its just about what works and either way its a great feeling to get a result with your own dog!
