Romany 1,065
wish id took a camera out over the years not for the big numbers because there wasnt many but for the laughs we had and the lads i was with some of which are no longer with us What a cracking ethos matie, one that summons up for me a passage from a book.. "There are many times in our lives when one is conscious that the abilities associated with youth are things of the past, a time when climbing a high wavering Elm to check out the contents of a rooks nest or to leap over a flooded singing burn become sad impossibilities. But, there is a time when youthful zest seems to return, rejuvenated like a Pheonix rising from the white hot ashes of the past, a personal time when sitting comfortably alone and contemplating past achievements or what was said and what was enjoyed. My body may now show many signs of waning life, but youth remains encamped in my heart and soul to gladden me when growing old touches me with sluggish fingers. With an easiness that comes from willing practice I vividly remember many childhood experiences. Oh how much joy and satisfaction is taken from these reveries that taunt my waking mind, exhilarating memories that haunt my dreams bringing back images and happenings that affected my early life so much, while above the dreamy lilt booms the laughter of many old friends and the whines of good dogs" The las few lines very fitting to what you say matie, reminding even a hardened numbers man like myself, that there is probably is more to life, than big scores..well done.. Simoman 110
Personally i'd would much rather read about a nights lamping rabbits and see a photo or two than read thread after thread asking to see your bull cross/brindle dogs/will a dogo whippet kill 5 leopards a night. Whin no doubt you have walked the walk but you don't half let folk know and seem jealous when other folk get attention!! Quote Link to post
lurcher330 2,297
I thought that what this site is about ,sharing the trills and spills of our game ,and the most interesting threads on here are the ones that tells the tales of a day or nights work and all the better if they are accompanied with pictures, when we go out we always take a few snaps on the phones or with the camara and it's even better when ye have the pics to the lads that let you down who were meant to come with ye,often sent a pic or two to lads all hours of the morning showing them what they missed out on 1 Quote Link to post
freelance 448
same here whin hardly took a pic in the early days,,, i have a few but not many,,,,20 odd year ago me and a mate killed 70 or 72 rabbits and 1 hare 1 night with 2 dogs.... it was the best any of us new in our circle of friends........but no photo of it . but today we have this site for sharing opinions , storys, and information,,,,, what i do is legal for the time being,, we have permison in wrighting ,, insurance to be on land,,, i for one like to see lads out doing a bit, and reading and looking at pics,,, ide rather that than,, lets see your collie cross,,bull cross,, saluki cross ect ect You are right there TOMO... Things were certainly different in the 70s and 80s, well at least darn sarf... I did see a handful of deer pics that the Forest lads had,..they were crumpled up , barely recognisable old images of Sika and Fallow hanging by their heels waiting to be taken to the dodgy game dealers..,but I never saw many rabbit photos. The biggest collection of pictures that I ever saw was in Cockermouth in Cumbria. The lads owned what they called Minshaw dogs. They had photo albums bursting at the seams with picture upon picture of hares and deers and rabbits,..amazing amounts of game that they had harvested from over the Border,..etc Localy we were killing plenty of rabbits on the lamp and most nights would see 30s and 40s. Back then we walked the stubble fields and usualy ran just one dog.. It soon became very hot, keepers and farmers had twigged onto the game and lads were getting pulled on a regular basis. A van load of jukels just attracted attention, plus you could get in and out of a place far easier with one sensible, off the lead, lurcher..There are a few photos from those days, but I ain't got many.. Nowadays, it has become the fashion to get an 'end of the day' shot,.and as long as the guys are proud of their jukels and have enjoyed the craic,..it is all good clean fun... The facts are, if you want to keep 'a momemto of the evento',.then do so,.. ... All the best, CW.. I too saw some of the Minshaw lads albums as well as Vic,s own album and it was an achievement to show the amount of gear those lads put to bed with there dogs, as for myself well i like to keep pics and wish i would have taken more over the years, i have my own from the early 90,s to look back over and remember faithful old dogs who i had some dammed good times with and of a time when we could run what we wanted big or small and its nice to reminisce over good times and old friends gone by. Personally i would be gutted if i lost my albums because i would never be able to recreate those pictures and memories again. Atb Freelance Quote Link to post

kayal 58
1- Because they are proud of their dogs. 2 - Because it makes for a more interesting post. 3 - Because if you said you caught rabs on here with no photos people would think you were lying. 4 - Because they can. Whin - every post you make you always say how little a challenge catching rabbits is etc etc etc etc. It's getting old now mate, you always running others down. Quote Link to post
