canaliculata 28
Hi all, just looking to those in the know, those who have been there and done it. Im on the look out for a new lurcher pup, nothing too big, lets say no more than 24 inch when fully grown. It will be used mainly for accompany me on my walks, but hunt and catch the odd rabbit, bird and be capable of a good run every so often. I know most lurchers that are entered right should be up to it as its no mean feat as i dont need to catch a wheel barrow full each time i go out. But i do need something that loves to hunt and will put the work in as the quarry is thin on the ground around here. So any advice on what you would suggest or what you would personally pick would be great. The parents obviously have to be tried and tested. Thanks in advance. Quote Link to post

neilnbeanie 10
I have got pretty much the same outlook as you mate, and i picked a Beddy, Greyx Whippet. I got her at 8 weeks old, and now she is just a year old. I am more than pleased with her. She is only 21 tts but i think thats a good size for rabbits, Good luck with what you choose. Neil. thorny 100
I have the same approach as You mate, for Me I just love being out and about with the dog. I have a collie x greyhound. He is 15 months old now. Had a few bunnies a couple he has really had to work for in thick cover. He even pulled a hen pheasent out last week. The look of shock on his face as he caught it just as it started to take off was brilliant. I am the same as you in the fact I dont want endless rabbits in the freezer, just a dog that can handle being out all day, can think for itself and is switched on enough to learn his own trade. Dont get Me wrong he is very obediant, and will work to arm commands at long range, recall 100%, retrieve, sit stay, down ect ect. As I am new to this I needed a dog that could perhaps show Me the ropes. He will never be a world beater, but he enjoys what he does, a pleasure to own and a fantastic family dog. Here He is at just 12 months with his first ever catch. He is bigger than what you are after at 28tts but I should think a collie x whippet would be perfect Thorny Quote Link to post
