Moll. 1,770
Same here Tyla, no-one else works the land. One thing always puzzles me.....Why do people get running dogs if they have no-where/need to run them? because they / I love there sport! iv got a lot of permission but if I lost it all tommorow id still keep lurchers. Im not an unpaid pest controller Im a dog Man ! ! To add my permission has gone from near on plagues of rabbits to barley any this season too! ! not trying to cause a row but its taken me 18 years running were I could and needed too, to get to what dogs I run today and what I know ( not much! ). Iv had my permission 1 - 2 years should I have waited till 2 years ago till I aquired a running dog do you think ? ? So i gather you had somewhere to run those dogs 18yrs ago then. Your only rowing with yourself Quote Link to post

Your only rowing with yourself I miss understood what you said it seemed like you said if youv got no permission dont buy a lurcher? because tyla said he wouldnt risk poaching and you then said I dont know why people get dogs if they cant run them. my mistake. foxfan 479
It's a crying shame, they're nigh on extinct round here on the local grounds. I reckon it's that VHD. Quote Link to post

I suppose i do think that way also BC. I have been thinking of late it is hardly worth me having the two running dogs, as there is not enough rabbits here at the mo. I could go further afield onto land i know there will be a lot more, but that would be in my eyes stealing from someone who has worked hard to get the land and rabbits he has. So instead i buckle down and try to do the best for my dogs with what i have here and invites onto good land. Don't get me wrong i have strayed over boundary lines many a time, but that is different to deliberately setting off to take from someone else. It is imo a reflection of today's society, where you just take what you want, when you want without respect for others, because like a spoiled child you want a running dog just because you can. I used to feel like this but I have to admit I've been getting demoralised lately. Other people going on my land (someone's been shooting and someone else lamping since before the season started, so that what should have been untouched land was low on numbers and the remaining rabbits lamp shy) means it's been thin pickings since the start of the season. Apart from missing the feeling of success which both me and my dogs enjoy, I need food in the freezer - times are hard and the dogs usually make a good contribution to their food bill! neilnbeanie 10
I went to acountry park at the weekend for a mooch, used to go there all the time and there used to be rabbits everywhere, i was gutted, nowhere near the amount that there once was. Just kept bumping into deer all the time. Must of seen 300, i was watching the bucks fighting, they didnt even take much notice of me standing there watching them. Had to keep putting the dogs on the lead. Gave up in the end, Lol. Quote Link to post

And then it spirals out of control moll. Someone has little on their land, so they find someone elses hard won permission, that holds well, and that they hunt sensibly thinking about the years to come, and knock that back hard taking big bags, and so that person is then forced to do the same or quit etc etc. Eventually everywhere is f****d. 1 Quote Link to post
Moll. 1,770
I was out lamping with pals a few weeks ago on land which holds big numbers. They had only had a quick look prior, saving it for a good night. We went and the place was practically deserted, they had a rough idea who had been on there and were devastated at the betrayal. I had to drive something like a 300 mile round trip to get there and with money being tight, all that diesel was just wasted. Quote Link to post

I agree someone else on your on your land is not good and twice as bad if your going out to fill the freezer! Quote Link to post
