happyferret123 13
The Rescue had them tested and came positive for C.D. Most (over 90%) of the ferrets that got it at that rescue had been vaccinated against it. Quote Link to post
jac 12
The vaccine dose not work as veccinated ferrets have also died of CD. Quote Link to post
gnipper 6,474
I want to take my ferrets hunting with me, but I have been keeping them in and not taking them out as I dont want them to get ill. I dont think the rescues are lieing about it as they have posted photos of the ill ferrets and its very sad to see. all the rescues I know of dont have a problem with hunting with ferrets ,some even go hunting themselfs. so I dont know whats going on? how many people on here would pay there vet to find out why there ferret died ? and how many would share with this board if it came back as CD. ? if everyone can share any info they can on ill ferrets ,then maybe we can see for real if we have a problem. there are photos Here on FB http://www.facebook....67395946&type=3 From one of the rescues . so keep an eye on your ferrets and if they show signs like in the photos get them to the vet and find out if its CD and plese share it with this forum . that way we an see if there is a problem or not with CD in ferrets and put my mind to rest Surely the ferrets are more likely to catch it at a show or rescue centre than they are out in the sticks catching rabbits???? 2 Quote Link to post

ferret100 47
Foxes, polecats, mink etc and even vaccinated dogs can all carry CDV so working ferts can still pose a risk. Although many vacced ferts have died of CD, there is no way of telling how many vacced ferts may have come into contact with the virus and been immune because of being vacced. So vaccing them is still far more likely to help if you are worried. Rescues have probably been more affected with the outbreak as they constantly have to take in dumped/abused/lost ferts, so cleaning up after other peoples mess is probably why they came into contact with CDV in the 1st place.... CDV is sort of like the fert version of measles/pox. Early symptoms will be lethargy and loss of appetite, after 5-10 days rash, sticky eyes, crusting of the chin/nose, fever, diahorrea and thickening of the feet pads will usually appear amongst other symptoms. The one 8,479
I know a farmer who wont let dogs on his land because they carry distemper .but surely the rescue should be looking at there cleanliness ?. Quote Link to post
Leeview 791
http://www.droitwich...e_distemper.tpl Where does it actually say that they have lost any ferrets to CD? it just gives info as to what look for, then puts a disclaimer at the bottom Y.I.S Leeview Quote Link to post
jac 12
thats not the rescue that lost them. thsts just for infomation. Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
The vaccine dose not work as veccinated ferrets have also died of CD. Thats not strictly true , one persons claiming that there ferrets were vaccinated with 2 different vaccines , now what are the chances of 2 different vaccines NOT providing enough immunity to the host animals concerned, I would think the odds are pretty dam low Trouble is facebooks not the most reliable of places to be getting '' alledged facts'' , this is whats been posted as ''fact'' , now read carefully, its the chesire rescue thats claiming there animals were jabbed , the wolverhampton case is the only other animal thats was vaccinated & seemingly has shown symptoms, but its been over a year since it was vaccinated, so isnt it more likely it was due a booster than the vaccine not having provided the adequate immunity So perhaps now people will stop scaremongering over vaccine effectiveness RE: Distemper Cases and Info Thread. 1) South Cheshire Ferret Rescue had one or more ferrets in from Yorkshire, this is how they think the CD arrived at their rescue. Swab Tests and standard PM have confirmed CD there. They lost 47 ferrets to start with, 43 of which had been vaccinated in the first outbreak. They then had 13 days clear BUT have now had a further outbreak with 7 showing symptoms as of today. The vaccines the rescue use are FULL VIAL OF VANGUARD 7 (DA2 Pi)and FULL VIAL CANIGEN DHP All the ferrets had/have been vaccs within the last 6months. 2) Wolverhampton Ferret Rescue took in boarders that are house ferrets but had been to Sherwood forest the weekend immediatley before they arrived at the rescue for boarding. 4 Ferrets were tested and diagnosed from swabs with CD, they are still awaiting results from the PMs. They had 7 days clear then a further outbreak has occured amongst ferrets that were kept separate to the ones that had had the disease. 02/11/2011 Michelle has confirmed 18 ferrets currently displaying symptoms (all groups at the rescue have at least 1 ferret showing symptoms) , plus 2 of her skunks look like they may also be developing it None of the rescue ferrets, Michelles own ferrets or the skunks are vaccinated. 3) Dudley, West Midlands - Dinhara a friend of Michelles (WFR) has ferrets showing symptoms of CD at her home. She had visited Michelles on 15th (before the 4 ill ferrets were diagnosed) with one ferret in a working box, the ferret never left the box in the kichen BUT is one of a group of 9 that are showing symptoms, 7 are kits. 1 ferret vaccinated in the group with 1 vial nobivac hasnt shown symptoms as of today (02/11/2011). Swabs have been taken but it will be 5-7 days before the tests come back from those. 4) Wolverhampton Hayley Gee, another friend of Michelles whose ferrets had been boarding with Michelle on the day the first group of boarders arrived. They were only there 24 hours having completed their boarding term so were collected and taken home by Hayley as no one knew then that there was any virus at the rescue. Last weekend hers started showing symptoms, vet took swabs at the same time as Dinharas confirmed it looks like another case. All are showing symptoms, one was vaccinated when she got it 12 months ago from Chase Ferret Rescue (Angie has confirmed it would have received 1/2 vial Nobivac). 02/11/2011 two other boarders who took their ferrets home with the vets say so have today reported ferrets with symptoms to Michelle. No more details currently available. 1 Quote Link to post
jac 12
it was south cheshire ferret rescue, and one in wolverhampton and another one , not shore where Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
it was south cheshire ferret rescue, and one in wolverhampton and another one , not shore where You clearly havent read any of that , the ferret belonging to haylee gee from wolverhampton had been vaccinated over a year ago , so isnt there a chance it was simply due a booster ? the lady who runs the rescue at wolverhampton DIDNT vaccinate , so thats just tough luck Quote Link to post
jac 12
i posted that at the same time as donater. so mine came up after his Quote Link to post
