jac 12
Is anyone worried about the canine distemper that has been killing ferrets of late in rescue centers? should we be keeping our ferrets in and not take them hunting till we get the all clear? Malt 379
I'm not worried... Maybe questions should be asked about the conditions these ferrets are kept in in these rescue centres.. Quote Link to post
jac 12
I know the rescues, so i can tell you they give first class care to the ferrets. but with over 50 ferrets having to be put to sleep and more now showing signs of it. in more than one place. we need to be careful that our ferrets stay safe till this is in hand. and we dont spread it further. Any amount of animals of the same species kept together in close proximity are always at a higher risk if an infection of any sort breaks out, be they ferrets, humans or anything else.. Leeview 791
18 months ago the pet ferret brigade were spouting this rubbish about an outbreak of CD and ferrets were dying all over the country in rescues, ferret shows were cancelled it was that serious several owners had there ferrets byopsyed but reports were inconclusive as to actual cause of death? IF it had of been CD all their ferrets would of had signs of it as it is an airborne virus and does nt need contact to spread As Malt said why does it only happen to rescues? Where dozens of ferrets are kept in close proximity to one another I have never lost a ferret to CD and dont know anyone who has tbh,I dont innoculate my ferrets for anything. just feed them well plenty of work and keep them warm and dry Y.I.S Leeview Quote Link to post

jac 12
I want to take my ferrets hunting with me, but I have been keeping them in and not taking them out as I dont want them to get ill. I dont think the rescues are lieing about it as they have posted photos of the ill ferrets and its very sad to see. all the rescues I know of dont have a problem with hunting with ferrets ,some even go hunting themselfs. so I dont know whats going on? how many people on here would pay there vet to find out why there ferret died ? and how many would share with this board if it came back as CD. ? if everyone can share any info they can on ill ferrets ,then maybe we can see for real if we have a problem. there are photos Here on FB From one of the rescues . so keep an eye on your ferrets and if they show signs like in the photos get them to the vet and find out if its CD and plese share it with this forum . that way we an see if there is a problem or not with CD in ferrets and put my mind to rest 1 Quote Link to post
