Anyone got any recomendations for best bait for mink traps, got mk 6 traps set with rabbit portions behind, well tunnelled and covered Iam unable to set up a raft where it is ?????????

rabbit will work just fine. i usualy just get a tin of sadines or mackerel and puncture some holes in the tin that way no mice can eat the bait best of luck.

I had great crack this summer trapping mink,dont bother making a tunnell for the trap!

I got traps off the local gunclub,just left a opened sardeen tin opened infront of the trigger...

By the way was told last yr when stalking that the gland of the mink was worth money to the fly fishing crew to make floatant is this true ??

I find the best bait for mink is salmon or bass..

Got a bit jill mink tonight on rabbit,traps been down 6 days now thats the first catch in this area,

Hi folks I have found that mink unlike most other species prefer fresh bait, I usually use kippers , microwave them for about 30 seconds to get them really smelly and then place a small bit (say 3 inches long) in the back of the trap. These pieces will go dry and curl up and become less smelly so replace them every day I catch very well using this bait.

Fresh trout works as well but I would rather eat the trout I catch.

You shouldn't use mk 6's for mink in my opinion we always use live catch traps because you never know whats going to get caught (and yes i am a Gamekeeper) we use rafts/tunnels because they are nosey lil blighters that can't resist having a look, therefor no bait is needed.

Yes I know its law,all my traps are well covered,I have plenty of experience with other species,just little with mink,mink I normally sit wait and shoot them,I have two live catches set one of which was responsible for the catch
