If i gave a man a dog on trail and he dug him 3 days in a row sore and then he gave him back ,i wouldn't be a happy man

He did 6 hours today and you think he'll do better on well educated game tomorrow? If he does okay tomorrow will you try him a third time the day after? Just to be sure like. How many days was he with

Send him back he is staying to far away from his job and he is getting the run around.

right i keep black dogs it not that l dont have dogs around me l wanted a lakeland for a year or so l rang the lad l got him off he told me to try so i went again today and dug him a 1.6, the dog did 4 hrs and 2 in front of him, no bothers, was happy out, was right on top of him so as regards sore yesterday the dog had no marks on him yesterday but he is sore today.rang the lad said that l was very happy with the way the dog went today and the reply was lev him and try him again in two weeks happy

if it were my dog on trail id be diggin it between 6 and 9 feet in a very hard earth just to make sure hes a stayer mate.

why??????? when you can drop the dog into a 3 or 4 foot hole and sit with you ear to the ground for 2 or 3 hours and hear everything you need to no about your terrier

because 3 or 4 foot holes dont have double or treble tubes in them and game cant give the dog a run around the same. Dog has to be a good finder and stayer in big earths.

If you liked how he did keep trying him. If not, why waste time. I tried a dog a while back. He consistently did terribly. I just couldn't believe how terrible it was. No dog that bad should have been offered to another hunter. I gave him several more tries, nothing changed. Fact is, it doesn't matter who is working the dog, if it's good it's good. As far as no good dog being sold, I wouldn't say that never happens. Sometimes a dog just isn't the style one hunter wants.

some guys only see what they want to see when they have a dog on trial, you cant put an old head on young shoulders.

mosby, what your saying or stating about " the fact is it dont matter who is working the dog if its good its good " is not a correct statment to make, i will wait for others to comment on it before i do.

Just another thing I don't think has been covered. If the dog in question that's on trial would usually only do an hour and then jack !!! What's to say the man selling it on trial hasnt deliberately laid it up for months and is fresh as a daisy !!! You dig it once or twice, think it's ding dong then part your money only to be well caught !!! 90% of the time any decent dog goes to friends or digging partners, not halfway round the country to Joe bloggs that is looking a terrier!!!

There's a lot to think about, firstly £700 is a lot for a terrier, even at this time of the year so the lure of the money may well part a good dog from its cash strapped owner, secondly how long was the dog given to settle in before he was out doing a bit? some dogs ( I have one myself) will just not perform for someone else, it takes time for them to want to do the job for you

And I would say that 3 - 4 digs would prove the dog or not, not every dog suits every man and vice versa

To take a dog on for that money you must want it badly or else you would get a pup and have the fun in getting it going

may be a top dog in the right hands

I knew a bitch, I REALLY good bitch that would only work for her owner. She would hardly even walk on a lead for anyone else. As she got older she got less like this and I was able to walk her and work her, or maybe she just got more used to me.
