Moorsman 17
Who sells a solid worker? Who sells a solid worker start of season? If he,s over dogged you'll be gettin the one he as least faith in. If he havin trouble at home he'd put it with a mate if it was any good. Just be wary. 2 Quote Link to post

fat man 4,741
If he cant hold his game and gets pushed just as your about to break through then give it back and no harm done,no point in taking it if your not happy with it,what if it spews after 4 or 5 digs, who will you blame then. 1 Quote Link to post
jeff 26
if it were my dog on trail id be diggin it between 6 and 9 feet in a very hard earth just to make sure hes a stayer mate. why??????? when you can drop the dog into a 3 or 4 foot hole and sit with you ear to the ground for 2 or 3 hours and hear everything you need to no about your terrier because 3 or 4 foot holes dont have double or treble tubes in them and game cant give the dog a run around the same. Dog has to be a good finder and stayer in big earths. Quote Link to post

Mosby 355
If you liked how he did keep trying him. If not, why waste time. I tried a dog a while back. He consistently did terribly. I just couldn't believe how terrible it was. No dog that bad should have been offered to another hunter. I gave him several more tries, nothing changed. Fact is, it doesn't matter who is working the dog, if it's good it's good. As far as no good dog being sold, I wouldn't say that never happens. Sometimes a dog just isn't the style one hunter wants. 1 Quote Link to post

mudd dog 128
Just another thing I don't think has been covered. If the dog in question that's on trial would usually only do an hour and then jack !!! What's to say the man selling it on trial hasnt deliberately laid it up for months and is fresh as a daisy !!! You dig it once or twice, think it's ding dong then part your money only to be well caught !!! 90% of the time any decent dog goes to friends or digging partners, not halfway round the country to Joe bloggs that is looking a terrier!!! There's a lot to think about, firstly £700 is a lot for a terrier, even at this time of the year so the lure of the money may well part a good dog from its cash strapped owner, secondly how long was the dog given to settle in before he was out doing a bit? some dogs ( I have one myself) will just not perform for someone else, it takes time for them to want to do the job for you And I would say that 3 - 4 digs would prove the dog or not, not every dog suits every man and vice versa To take a dog on for that money you must want it badly or else you would get a pup and have the fun in getting it going may be a top dog in the right hands Quote Link to post

dev 226
I knew a bitch, I REALLY good bitch that would only work for her owner. She would hardly even walk on a lead for anyone else. As she got older she got less like this and I was able to walk her and work her, or maybe she just got more used to me. 1 Quote Link to post
