Millet 4,497
No one interested... ..i learned pretty quick a good few year's ago after getting footed of a female harris in the weathering..i stupidly went in to remove a uneaten rabbit leg bare handed..she footed my left hand and when i went in with my right hand she footed that with the other foot...so basicly i was hand cuffed and foked.. .. After the infection went and the bird was on the fist again.the food was always slowly presnted from below the glove with leashes held tight.. 1 Quote Link to post

Simoman 110
Just out of interest how do you get the talons out, is there a way or do you have to wait for them to release you? Quote Link to post
stoaty1 35
Just out of interest how do you get the talons out, is there a way or do you have to wait for them to release you? - As soon as you touch the feet the bird will drive them in harder so its best to grin and bear it -easier said than done though, lol. Easiest way is if your bird never thinks you will steal food from it. While its eating start to condition your bird to having your hand round its feet. Start with a feather in case they lash out and then use the hand. I have been accussed of careless handling of food around my bird but she never lashes out. Down to handling and knowing your bird. 1 Quote Link to post

You cant really as they like a fecking ratchet.. ..and they wont let go until they are ready or some food is presented to them.. i dont have and trouble getting footed but if i did i would just stay calm and throw some food on the floor..i had to do that once when the hawk grabbed the dog by both ear's ..as soon as the hawk seen the food thrown on the floor it sharp let go..i have also seen it done with a young female harris that had bagged a ferret on it first day out.. 1 Quote Link to post
Millet 4,497
. Not feed it from the glove So how are you going to man the bird and do fist work if you are not going to feed from the glove.. ..when my bird is pulled from the enclosure after the moult he will and will not be allowed to feed anywhere else apart from on the glove.. 1 Quote Link to post

EskdaleHawks 8
It's not that they won't let go! They physically can't let go. The feet are tools for grabbing and pinning prey. It is a reflex reaction driven by adrenalin. The foot operates on a system similar to a ratchet . It is also a survival strategy. Pain is the only option when footed. 1 Quote Link to post
