was talking to a fella a while back some the things he talked about where in my eyes a little bit mad and the reason he give a lttle madder

 

he just seemed to locked his dogs away not letting them bonded with him or get used to other people the reason he give for this was that the dogs

would not go on and hunt if you treat them any other way the reason i bring this up is we got a hound the other night and the lad talked about the way

hounds are brough up and are a nevrous beed but in my eyes they are far from a nevrous breed if reared right it costs nothing but time to lead train and get

them responding to basic comands

the hound we got is very nervie but im hopeing in time he will come good he will now get plenty of excerise gentle handling along with abit bit of training and

fingers crossed he will come good i cant fault him yet as we had him out the day and he is 100% round stock and had two short hunts but only time will tell

i was told some hounds packs like them nervous because if they run on no one would try steal them

you only get out what you put, and if your on their case all the while, i would have thought hounds would never respect you, let alone work for you, huntsman and hounds should be a team, and they should bond to you, their master, their feeder and the man they love to hunt for and with, why would they want them nervous, there has been cases where hounds have been taken from the hunting field,but the dirty theives soon realise that he is a pack animal and starts playing up they wont keep him,

There is no room for nervousness in any type of working dog, no matter what breed.

Hounds should be reared to be bomb proof and want for nothing. When they join the pack they should be treated well and expected to work hard. The reason a huntsman doesn't like to see hounds looking for a rub on a days hunting is because on a days hunting hounds have a job to do.

I have walked loads of hound pups over the years and they all get as much fuss and petting as the rest of my dogs, probably more when young. I sit in the high street on a saturday afternoon and let folk pat them and make a fuss of them to get them well socalised with everyone. I bring them up with my dogs and i get them used to sheep, horses, chickens,cats etc from the time that they arrive which is normally about 10 weeks old. I learn them to feed alongside my terriers. I take them out when ferreting and lamping too. I also teach them to walk on lead and on couples whilst young. The more time put into the hounds the better they are later on in life. I even teach mine to sit and give a paw which is quite funny to see on a hunting morning. No one wants to see a timid, shy hound but everyone wants to see a lively, friendly hound bouncing about raring to go. It is a great feeling to see your hound out on a walk, broken to all stock and behaving themselves.

exactly milkimen i have a wee hound bitch here at 6 months goes everywhere way me and the terriers and have just let her come on in here own.. hounds generally dont need much breaking too stock if shown them very young... ok granted they will run up and take a little sniff but never a bite or anything and after 2-3 of the meetings i find they know very quickly what they are.... my hound pup is hunting like a mad thing although she just doesnt know exactly its just fox she meant too hunt but thats just because she hasnt seen enough of them yet...... she very obedient comes back to her yips lol and can jump fences with the best of them very socialised would work all day and just loves to get out and already she is very keen to get too ground when she sees 1 of the terriers enter.... and i have too single girls who live on either side of me and my hond and terriers all friendly with them.... hate gassy dogs or bitches in the yard.....by the way milki hows things lad hows your season goin so far for you pm if you like maybe try and arrange a wee day

Don't have hounds ,but some curdogs. the better they bond to you the better they hunt it seems.also they handle better. I hunt a lot of public land and need to have control of where my dogs go. they check in every 10 minutes or so .When there is no game

if the dog can smell old raynard and would rather be petted the dog should not return holme my honest oppinion atb
