gnipper 6,484
Anyone know wheres the cheapest place for MK4's? I found some for £6.95 which is about £2 cheaper than our nearest gun shop and the postage is about £3 for three, not sure if its more for more traps. Cheers, Gnipper Quote Link to post
john b 38
You need to be a bit carefull with cheap ones. I bought some mark 6 at a game fair last year that seemed good value - one of them has just smashed itself when it fired Quote Link to post
mole trapper 1,693
Fenn mk 6,s have gained a bit of a rep for springing apart recently, bought 45 springer MK 6,s off ian hodge the other night, he is pretty fair on his prices, but i am lucky he only farms 10 minutes away from here so no postage. :thumbs-up: Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Just out of interest lads; Are we talking proper, dog and pan stamped Fenn Traps here? Or some generic thing with no name on it and just following the model of the Fenn? Quote Link to post
Guest foxtrack
are springers more reliable than fens then Quote Link to post
mole trapper 1,693
Firstly DS, yes i am talking about the good old real Mc COY, it was quite funny because one or two keepers had said about it then one or two of mine started getting the arms crossed on being sprung and the hook springing out of the eye. Hence the reason i am giving the springers a trial, i have had a handfull of them for years and no probs as yet. Foxtrack i personally have always been a big fan of the MK6 Fenn, not bothering with the 4,s, as the bigger one does all jobs, while the smaller only does some, this issue with the Fenn springing apart is a new phenomonen to me personally, but as i use them for a living day in day out and was about to invest over three hundred quid in a new batch i did not want to take any chances, so went for springers, which at the end of the day are made by some fenn ex employees who got pissed ff and started up on their own just up the road. Thats if my memory serves me correctly. :thumbs-up: Quote Link to post
Guest foxtrack
yes ive heard the story the new people at fenn are hard work so they say ?a so i suppose an ex employee of fenn making the same trap at a cheaper rate cant be bad news can it Quote Link to post
micky 3,325
anyone know any ex imbra employees? Quote Link to post
mole trapper 1,693
Now then who do we know that just bought a load of Imbras, any ideas john b, micky is looking for some. Quote Link to post
gnipper 6,484
Are these the Springer type or another version? http://www.solwayfeeders.com/ProductsDetai...STOCK_CODE=1905 also has anyone tried them? Cheers, gnipper Quote Link to post
mole trapper 1,693
Gnipper thats a very good question, , solway only generealy sell good gear, but at that price even for a mk 4 springer which is margionaly cheaper than fenn it is to good to be true, best give them a ring and ask them out right are they cheap eastern imports or the real deal, if they are the one of the two i would grab some if it is the mk 4 you really want to buy. gnipper 6,484
I'll try and find out then mate, i'm only after mk4's really as trapping rabbits doesn't interest me and thankfully we've no mink round here so smaller tunnels and lighter traps are better for me. Just wanna knock a few stoats, weasels and rats off around work thats all. Cheers, Gnipper Quote Link to post
moley 115
the picture on that link is of a pair of mk6 fenns not mk 4,s as it states, they cannot be making much at all on them at that price, hardly worth the effort, the cheap imports have a very fine chain and are very shiney with no stamp on the pan, ebay is flooded out with them and cheap crappy mole traps Quote Link to post
CORNISH DOG 0
THOSE TWO NO 4 / MK 4 TRAPS WORK OUT AT £14.98 FROM SOLWAY INC DELIVERY I SEE IN CMW IAN HODGE WOULD CHARGE £15.45 FOR TWO NO 4 SPRINGERS AND ARTHUR CARTER A FEW POUNDS MORE IF MY SUMS ARE RIGHT . I KNOW WHAT I WOULD DO . GOOD LUCK AND KEEP CATCHING Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Thanks for that, MT. That's very interesting. I wonder what's going on there then? Regarding Springers; They are indeed now made by one of Alan Fenn's former right hand men. You'll be getting a product every bit on a par with the original and I've actually heard a fair few very experianced men saying they actually fire better than Fenn's. Oh and, 'Hard work' was it? Ask me, rank raving f*cking mad might be nearer the mark! Quote Link to post
