pigeonphill 69
i use hay as bedding and have no problems with it , but i was given a black bag full of straw and when cleaning them out to day my ferrets were covered in ticks not just one or two but bloodly loads of them . i can only think they have come from the straw and i believe it had been sitting around for a while . i have three cages of ferrets and the only ones that didnt have ticks are the one that i did not use the straw in Quote Link to post

Bunny Boiler 177
Believe it or not, Goose feathers. Especially the downy ones. They're toasty in that stuff. Pheasant feathers, pigeon feathers, duck feathers, crow feathers. Get the idea yet? Feathers. Lots of them. As your local estate/shooting syndicate if they can keep the feathers in a bin bag/sack for you. Store it in the shed, lasts most of the winter after just a few 150 bird days. The bottom of the cage is sawdust then I bung the feathers on top of the sawdust in the bedding part. Atb, Bunny. Edited October 29, 2011 by Bunny Boiler 1 Quote Link to post
Col_c88 41
Heh, I've noticed after them devouring a pigeon the feathers end up in the beds anyways so until a clean out i leave them there ... old t-shirts/towels/blankets.. shredded paper (misses works in a school so i get binbags full) hay from the shop usually. put an old sock around a pipe the kits love sleeping in that Quote Link to post
