twobob 1,497
yes coal was imported because it was cheaper but the open cast sites were the way forward, they left a scar but they produced much more coal quicker and safer so it was just a matter of time till mining was not cost effective and good riddence to it as the conditions that men had to endure while risking their health and their lifes is best consigned to the past or maybe you think a bunch of old lads sitting in the club coughing their guts up while they talk about the good old days is worth it. What a load of bollxcks open cast coal is shite compared to deep mined.Every job has its risks ask the builders, plasters, asbestos laggers, just one other thing yes it is terrible these old lads sit coughing while they can afford apint due to the union getting them a decent pension unlike a lot that have to decide to eat or heat.
