JonathanKent 16
Hi all, As the title suggests I am after some advice about importing from the States. I am after a new scope and I am a bit of a fan of Leupold, due to the price difference one imported from the US is roughly half the price of one here. My question is has anyone got any experience of doing this and hopefully the name of a good company to deal with. I am aware that anything imported could be subject to duty, I am also aware that if you have a friendly company who mark it 'gift', 'repair' or similar you can avoid this. Some help and advice would be greatly appreciated. ATB Jonno Quote Link to post
oman 23
Recently dealt with Boyds gunstock industries and have to say was very impressed. The only problem would be the scope would you be sure it would be handled with care. With regards the stock USPS was the postal company that it was posted with and with their track and confirm service you knew exaclty where the item was and when it has passed through the customs. bangerstox10 3
I had imported a burris eliminator from the states and asked for it to be marked as a warranty replacement. But i still got stung for the import duty. The only thing i will say is if it is lost and you have marked it as a £58.00 gift you will only get £58.00 not the true value of the scope say £580.00. So could you afford to loose £528.00 ?? The custom people are not stupid. On my scope i paid £500.00 pounds including postage but had to pay £139.00 duty. Still made it a cheap scope as i have only seen one company offering that scope and it was well over £1000.00 in the uk. Hope this helps with your import duty from the state. It is nice to beat the import tax but not every one is a winner. Quote Link to post
vitalspark 4
Hi Jonno I've only imported accessories so far so can't recommend any companies. However you may find the following import duty calculator link handy. It's free but only allows a limited number of calcs per month if you don't want to pay: http://www.dutycalculator.com/new-import-duty-and-tax-calculation/saved_calculations/view_details/8113102/ Quote Link to post
The Seeker 3,048
Not to mention that trying to avoid paying import duty is a crime so I assume if anyone is talking about sending it to themselves as a gift or warranty repair they are talking hypothetically? There was a guy on another forum who sent his Leuopold scope back to the states for a genuine repair, when it came back he had to pay the duty on it which clearly he was unhappy about but they said if he can produce a receipt of purchase they would exempt the payment. Just goes to show these guys aren't stupid and have seen more ways of trying to avoid the duty then most people can come up with. Edited October 28, 2011 by The Seeker Quote Link to post
