3 piece shovel

Recommended Posts

i wouldnt bother with screw together ones. after time the threads will stretch and the handle will be misaligned,

thats when you put a washer on,i wouldnt be with out mine great tools to have imo

ptfe tape would do the same but how long would it be before the threads strip completely.

no good using tape on mine wud just wear off mines got good deep threads on mine been using mine for over 15 years still as strong from the day it were made

i can vouch for that ,very handy tool indeed

Looks a good job there, nice work. I think I'd rather have the welded version myself though. I think it would be far more Robust and would suit the digging I do beter..atb

It feels really strong mate, the iron tube in the center is a tight fit and there is no movement, also i have cut it so it fits tight into the tapered bit of the shovel so hopefully there will be no pressure put on the bolts when digging. Hopefully it will get some use in the coming months so i can test it out.

I've just had one made last week, I work in a recycling place so just got the metal shaft off an old spit that had cracked and the head off an old shovel, also a thick nut and bolt to weld onto either end. Explained to a welding lad who works with me what I wanted and he had it done the next day. He used two nuts though, he welded one onto the shovel head piece and left one on the bolt loose that turns so you havto screw them together then use a spanner to tighten the loose nut to the tight one, works a treat and lets you line the handle up perfectly. Only charged £15 aswell... :D
