Only thing you could try is slowly building up its confidence with easy rabbits, take it ferreting, give it squatters etc. No long slips, don't out match it etc. 1 Quote Link to post

wirral countryman 2,110
You will never change a yapper aged 3yrs,a lot of whippets yap especially when outclassed,no good for poaching but alright on permission,I personally could never keep or breed off a yapper, find it a pet home if you can't be done with it,atb,WM Quote Link to post
fresh earth 47
Has the dog caught any of the rabbits its running on ? if your slipping the dog on rabbits that are to far out and its not fit or hasn had a rabbit in a while thatl be the reason one of mine is murder for it if she is out a couple of nites and hasnt had anything and is running long runs she starts opening up but shes as quiet as a mouse ferreting mooching and aslong as shes getting the odd kill and easy run she's happy none of the rest of mine open up but i dont enter mine till there fully mature and i give them easy runs for a while before i start pushing them . The dogs either needing some easy kills or like most whoever entered the dog will have done so to early and on hards runs with little or no catches which quickly frustraights the dog and can lead to this being a perminant problem id persivere and as i say easy short slips could sort it out kris 1 Quote Link to post
Guest joball
To many people make excuses my mates wippets same, just cull the thing like i told him. Quote Link to post
asanley 1,009
I,v never known one to stop barking when they are doing it to that extent , but there are plenty of other ways to work and enjoy it , ferreting ,daytime mooching etc. Quote Link to post
yeeharr 41
Once they start to open up, they don't stop. I don't know of anyone who's cured a dog of it, (although I daresay there'll be someone on here who's mates, brothers, friends dog stopped with the use of a pair of maraccas). When they're doing it, they seem too busy yapping to strike. Whippet and whippet X's open up more than most, although any dog can do it. Quote Link to post
hellyer189 93
i had a dig that did this, it was my own fault though giving him long slips ect but once i learnt what i was doing it was ok and it stopped he was nearly 2 so it may work just try squatters mate and make sure he is fit Quote Link to post
