Country Joe 1,411
Im afraid Deben is the only company that sells them, so they have the market covered, you could go for a second hand on ebay, say the mark 1 which was the original, and they have a big following, but these also make silly money, or you save up and go for the new mark 3, either way, I would not go ferreting without one. simonrocco 175
i v got a mk3 one but is broke it doesnt give the right depth it was good while it was working though im using the old grey box locator now both cost alot of money but they are an essential tool when out ferreting id never go ferreting without one saves alot of waiting around at sets if your ferret kills and lays up a quick dig and your on your way. atb pal Quote Link to post

Country Joe 1,411
Many a time ive dug and pulled two Rabbits from a stop end, which I would have missed without the finder, I would not go out without one, in fact when I had to send my mark1 for a service, I never went out. Ferret mad Dave 65
Just got the mk3m not cheap but in the long run it's worth every penny Quote Link to post
DKGPestControl 22
I have 2 of the old grey boxes, I brought the micro box for about £ 5 or so years ago and i was given by a mate the bigger one. both still working fine. the have been dropped, left out when i have lost them for a weekend or so, run over with a quad, yet they still work! The only trouble i have is finding collars for them although i have been told that the mk3 collars work with them. Be warned they always seem to say the ferret is about 12"-18" deeper than they actually are! I have herd of a few ferrets killed my the spade whilst digging. Take it slow and use a spike to find the run. A finder is a definate must for any one working ferrets IMHO Quote Link to post
Country Joe 1,411
The only trouble i have is finding collars for them Mike Dadd sells brand new Mark 1 Collars £40 with one year guarantee, look at my post on them I stuck up a couple of photographs. Quote Link to post
Rake aboot 4,936
I find it hard to critisise anyone who decides not to use a locator, I spent years ferreting without one,, but at the same time,, If the tech is there, you should use it,, I use one now, and it`s an amazingly handy bit of kit. Oh and get a MK 3M. Quote Link to post
muddy210 34
mk 3m here find it one of the most useful bits of kit in my equipment. on layups its gret for locating your animals ad o the bigger sets such as hedrows it shows if they have moved out of the area you are looking at. i often tie wrap mine to the spade and shove the spade in the ground thirty yards down wind if i hear it going i know the ferts have move off in that direction. not ideal i know but dont allways have 2 sets of eyes Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
MK3m all the way, its only the price of one weekend off the lash, and it may save you a kidney in the long run Quote Link to post

Plong 21
You can ferret with out one but having one does make it easier. Some of the lads I ferret with never had them as kids but still never lost ferrets. Even using one it's not fail safe. Quote Link to post
