Got lost while out lamping..... Anyone else done the same???

Went out last night and mapped land out in daylight ran the dog ona few things and before we knew it we were in the middle of nowhere and didnt have a clue ended up walking for 3hrs looking for truck!!!!! Anyone know how to follow directions using the stars??????

done it myself on a few occasions even land you think you know well in the day looks completly different at night :thumbs: you want to try being in large woods at night now that is very disorientating :laugh: only know how to find the north star :laugh: no help whot so ever :laugh: got sat nav and gps on my phone now but that no use either as i dont know how to use it :laugh: :laugh: :laugh:

fog is the worst for getting lost in,,, of course your not likly to go lamping in fog,, but it can come in quik.

 

my advise is,, google is your friend,, study your land on google earth,, all the gateways , green lanes, hegrows , woodland try and notice the shape of them,, old barns,,, where roads disect your land... anything realy.

happened us one nite in the pissing rain we got carried away as we were having such a good nite ended up in the middle of nowhere had 2 knock at a cottage to ask for directions and he said your miles from the car so he gave me a lift 2 the car lads waited there with dogs for after 20 mins we get there and i realise i didnt have me keys where were the in the door of the car for the whole nite.

Tried google earth while out but guess what??? NO BLOODY SIGNAL ands two fields away a massive telephone mast wtf!!!!! The guy I was with lived in the area all his life and grown up round the area lamping etc and even he didnt work out how we got lost!!!! Ended up walking down a road to get back with two dogs and a lamp!!!! Sure pc plod would of had something to say if he had of accidently turned down our road!!! Out again tonight but going to our usaul place hopefully red coat will be out.

We thought about that but was silly oclock and all very posh houses and gated entrances plus one of dogs could cause some trouble if asked bout it!!! Know what i mean!!!

Got lost on my grandads farm and I know it like the back of my hand lol took me 30 mins to see were I was so I got annoyed and in the morning I tied a red ribbon on one fence a yellow on another ect now if I get lost I just shine the lamp on the fences and scan till I find a ribbon then I know ruffly were I am lol it sounds daft I know but it helps lol

it happenened to me once mackem and i was with a mackem when it happened we were poaching along the a66 and we decided to split up after a few hours i didnt have a clue where the f**k i was and was carring a rucksack full of bunnies so i started walking country lanes and after what seemed like forever my mate turned up in the car . next time i think we just stuck to lamping as a pair

I have a big acreage of reclaimed marsh land. Its an absolute b*****d for losing yourself! Its totally flat and all looks the same in the dark. You should be able to get back by using the road lights but the whole place is criss crossed with rifes, once your off track thats it. You can end up seeing where you want to go but being cut off by the rifes and having to back track literally miles. Very easy to miss the bridges in the dark too. Been out there for hours at times!
