how old dose my pup have to be to take him ferreting

take him now,,,let him watch and lern, smell warrens,ect ect,,i wouldnt be bothered leting him chase anything yet. my advise though take him on your own , just you a ferret and the pup,, he doesnt need another dog there.

Yeah take the pup now, mines only 13 weeks and is learning the Ropes.

Same. Get him out now ferreting. Let him learn that he should keep out the way while netting up and that ferrets are off the menu. Let him smell the holes and and get used to whats going on. Its 2nd nature to you but its a huge learning curve for him. Let him see and hear the rabbits hit the net and once youve killed the rabbit, let him sniff at it. If he tries to pick it up stop him gently, its a bad habit that you dont want him getting into. All the time he is playing with the dead ones as an adult his attention isnt on the job. Once he is a bit more used to it all you can let him tackle a few rabbits in the net. That will help build his confidence that he can catch them. Give him lots of praise. Dont make his first ferreting trip an all day mission, just a couple of hours is enough or he will get bored and start misbehaving which will result in you being pissed off which he will sense. Make it a short, fun trip and he will be set for life.

thanks dogmagic and x38 em yeah his mum is a pure raceing greyhound and has won 26 races and his dad is a deer/gray/wheton and he is starting to rag my little terrier about and going for her throat and he has a lot of knuckle left to grow into

thats just him learning his trade mate ....good luck
