A BIT MORE TIME WITH HIM, SURE THE PENNY WILL DROP, SOME DOGS ARE A BIT THICK OR SLOWER THAN OTHERS, TRY HOLDING HIM BACK A BIT MORE.

He is a young dog, they don't all take to it like a duck to water. One of the most important qualities you need is patience, if you haven't got patience you have f**k all.   I would recomend you go

the lad i got him of is in the hundreds with fox with the parents so its not off shite an hes got 2 brothers off him thats doin well!

having the same problem here with a russell pup i have kid.... he 15 months old entering and hunting and stuff no problems just cant seem to find in ground.... i have only showed him 1 stopend which was last week ..... so he will get tried tomorrow again..... he been brought up and socialised right just like his brother who ive had 5 digs with.... either he just a slow starter or a dud but ill find out 1 way or another the dog is actually starting to annoy me now tbh ... atb with him and hope you get a result out of him.... but theres 1 sure thing ill not be holding on this boy much longer..... he has seen more than enough days out now ..... might be a pts job..... mine that is lol

Maybe he's just not pushing threw them that extra bit !!! Has the dog got a good nose ??? I wouldn't be giving him any more hard ends tbh. If he's travelling then that's half the battle. Try dropping one up for him and waiting a few secs and then letting him in, that should do the trick and maybe he'll click that he needs to push on that bit further in the future. Atb

I had a bitch a few years back that was exactly the same i kept trying her till she was nearly 3 and she wouldnt change her ways, she was basically a jibber, she didnt want to find, the fact that your dog is willing at the end imo doesnt mean much alot of dogs will grow a pair when there is daylight and encourgaement close by. If i was you i wouldnt try the dog again untill you find a suitable earth, smaller the better,a two or three holer , in such a place it should find if it WANTS to, if it doesnt then questions have to be asked. at the end of the day you know the dog you should know if he is capable of using his nose,if he has no problem scenting above ground then he shouldnt have a problem below either, any way hopefully it is as others have suggested and hes just a bit slow and hasnt got the confidence to push though the tight spots.best of luck with him and lets us know how you get on  womble
