Oldest Dog To Catch Hare

I had a dog greyhound collie approx 27yrs ago and at the age of 8yrs caught a hare & not kicked up approx 30yrs

 

Who as had older dog or bitch than this pre ban !!!

had a bitch 9 and a half she caut a hare she had pins in her leg got it in a wheat feild she was sore for a week caut allsorts in her time a champoin realy her name was lana , saw her cacth bolting rabbs at 9 past , in front of younger dog , a guy called border lad was there that day he says it brought tears to his eyes to see a dog of that stamp still alive as he had traveled half of north east to try and buy agood qaulity pup, had her out with a few guys on here there dogs were not in the running they just made the numbers as they say so called good dogs 2 ,

had a bull whippit bitch catch one aged 9 she was sore for a good few days after though, she was still game at 11 she would put stuff up but the younger dogs would fly by her and catch, then she take it off them and ragg it to pieces in her temper

had a 10 year old bitch catch more than one hare n her old age,,,, she was a real mongrol type, out of a bull/grey mother,,, she couldnt live with a hare in hare prime, but she cought some n old age, round industrail sites, ect...

yes that is true I have seen a lot of running dogs in my day, NO doubt she was a bit special, that type of dog only comes once in a life time, Border Lad,

I had a saluki x that still managed the odd one aged 9, she loved the odd night out lamping with the younger dogs as well. Atb CC

12 yrs old feckin hell i thought 8 years was old !!! mine was also laid up for a few days after also also caught rabbits up to the age of 11

Ive saw old dogs after theyve had a few runs on bunnies and the next day there like an old roll of carpet, the mind is willing but the body isnt i think

Seen my mates 3/4grey,1/8beardie,1/8 border kill some good well run hares aged 11yrs,took them over 3 fields,that dog was bought off hancocks older stuff,it was kept as a pet for the first 8 yrs of its life never seeing anything till his uncle died and was looking for a good home,he took it on and the dog was a good allrounder,stood 26"TTS with a broken coat,an old boy told me 30 odd years ago that " what you don't get at the beginning you get back on the other end of its life " it seemed so in this case,maybe something for the young lads to think about running their dogs at 6 months,interesting thread,WM

a friend of ours has an old dog think hes 11 or 12 now, he still catches them but with another dog, he hangs back in the middle of the field waiting fo the young dog to turn it in then takes over and nails them , i now its not fair etc but the old lad enjoys it still.

years ago My grandad had a whippet x greyhound it got a hare aged 9 stood at 23inch tts it had to be pts at age 15 great dog it was and my grandad bought it out of the back of van at a game fair lol and it turned out to be the best rabbit / hare dog he had
