Guest MOLLY
When i first saw it i though...spar, then after watching it thought, buzzard, then thought neither It was'nt as dark as a buzzard but not as light as a spar...sort of a buff colour, small head, its flight was either flapping or soaring about 40ft above me, it was desperate to land in the tree i scared it out of. Guest MOLLY
Never thought of a juvenile Buzzard, i just knew it did'nt look like the ones i normally see, the colours are much more pronounced..... This was the only photo i could find of a spar in flight and it looked very similar? MOLL.

Guest MOLLY
I would go for the female sparrowhawk myself ,with a full crop too .Did it have a kill it was tryinig to get back to ? She was desperate to get back into the tree, and would land, but i kept going under it to try to get a piccie of her sitting and she would take off again....i would have thought she would have flown away with me and 4 dogs underneath, she just kept circling above me...so there is a good chance she did have a kill in it...it was getting dull and too high up for me to see. The other piccies i have from yesterday, plus one i got from the net shows a much broader tail than this one, as shotup said...this one is longer.... Ive seen umpteen buzzards here, even got one on my wall... and know them 'quite' well, im sure people will know what i mean when i say there was something not quite right with this bird, thats why im asking. bill88 6
Sparrowhawk flie's with what i would describe as a flap flap flap glide sort of pattern,a Buzzard look's quite slow and cumbersome when flapping, and would spend more time gliding with the wing's locked forward. From the picture i'd say the tail was too long for a buzzard so i'll go with sparrowhawk, but it could be a gos. Squirrel_Basher 17,100
We see buzzards ,red tails and sparrowhawks on thermals at the same time round us and mollys pic is no buzzard.Sparrow hawks fly with short bursts of flapping followed by long soars .The last pic clinched it for me -typical female sparrowhawk gliding .
