chartpolski 23,914
A lot of people are missing the point here ! The lad asked what would be the best 1st cross for all LEGAL quarry; as that would be rabbits and rats, I suppose a beddy/whippet would fit the bill ! Cheers. Quote Link to post

I think it was more that some people are so secrative that theres all this.... pre ban, legal quarie bollox, I dont think you need to worry about the secret police kicking the door in if you state Quarrie, but perhaps he ment legal quarrie, rat and rabbit now what a boring world that would be! 1 Quote Link to post

whip x grey 276
As said what's the best first cross for all leagal lurcher work today a whippet x greyhound is best 1st cross,,,,as they giv ya speed ,, which isnt the end all ect ect but thats what you get from that 1st cross put a collie 1st cross,,,ull get the brains ,,,but what if it doesnt throw towards the racing lines,,,its 1st cross might fall short in speed if thrown more towards collie ( iam not saying collie slow by all means ,,,but a pure collie will fail when speed required, ect ect) the bull x grey,,,,is as we know hit or miss,,,,same as a beddie whippet,,,,,were golf course rabbit ,,,will rrun away from daytime end off day sulkie /greys will do it daytime and night as for the dog world,,,,the lamping fecked it up for a lot off breeds that can do it daytime,,,but end off the day could easly do it on the lamp,,,,,,but when it came to lamp ,,,u dont need the running dog as much Quote Link to post

Only one of them time trialed, and it lifted the field by one yard !! Every one of them looked like they would give a hare a good test !! A Whippet/Grey won't let anyone down if brought up and entered correctly ! Cheers. Quote Link to post

Cheers. hi rich,,,,nikki whiz is shays litter mate ,,,,just rub it in i was meant to have one off those pups years ago but wife put foot down lolol as for best 1ST cross,,,for everyone ,,,the reason i picked whip/grey is because ,,,breed two both together ,,,there aint much wastage,,breed two sprinter,s ,,,,u get a sprinter,,,,job done breed 1st cross bull x or collie x ,,,,there,s going to be wastage,,,,hence litter cant always produce best in both breeds,,,,,,ect ect so if breeding 1st cross together ,,,,when it comes to wastage,,,,,whip/greys ,,,dont have any,, when they meet the requiement and produce ,,,,i,e small still speed ,,,bigger still speed,,,,,,other 1st crosses dont have that garuntee when 1st lining not saying whip/greys are the best ,,,far from it,,,,but when 1st crossing for whatever reason,,,the litter produced is a safe bet ,throwout Edited October 22, 2011 by whip x grey Quote Link to post
boyo 1,398
first cross greyhound whippet will give you looks speed preydrive and lots more imo ideal dog for somene starting out as they will certainly give the excitment every run. i know all about injuries but in my opinion one of the easiest crosses to enter to quarry . i personally run a first cross saluki greyhound i bred myself but its horses for courses and they suit what i run . chartpolski 23,914
I know what you're saying mate ! I've got a Beddy X and a Deer X, here at the moment... but I'm still looking for a well bred Non-Ped....Hopefully going back to dogs like Red Baron, Daisy, Hot Cocolate, Devils Angel, etc !! Real scratch dogs, that could win a race and kill a hare !! Cheers. Quote Link to post

A dog has to get up to it's Quarry, before it strikes !! A slow dog is just a mongrel cur ! Forget all this shit about dogs being "to fast" !! If they can't get up to it; they can't kill it !! Cheers. 1 Quote Link to post
