Have not posted anything for a few days as i have been tied up with a few other things (mainly shooting pheasants and ducks).

Anyway, worked today, and then decided to have a little look on the estate in one of the pine woods for a quick half hour, as on the way back from duck flighting last night i had seen a few rabbits sat a long the edge in the headlights of the car.

Anyway, got up there and it looks like there are a few about, which is good as it was hit bad by mixi earlier in the year. It's mostly big 40 + hole sets, so i just ran the dog over them and saw if i got any marks, but left them for another time.

Got a mark on a nice little 8 holer though and netted it up, ran a jill through and after a bit of rumbling the rabbit bolted, did an about turn and tried to go back down the hole, but luckily the dog was on it and drew it back out.

A bit further on got another mark on another small ish set so decided to do that as well, to make it a brace and give the other jill a run, netted up and there was a lot of banging, it went quiet and i got the disco carrot out, got a mark 3 foot down, and just as i was about to get the spade, she shifted it and it leapt out of a hole in the top of a hollow tree stump, was well netted and held by the dog.

By this time it was getting dark, so i headed home for a cuppa, but will return to this bit of woodland next week, or maybe over the weekend, although i think we are in England Sunday.

Aye Seany i am mate, i can't deny it, i rarely take the dog out for a walk over winter without sticking a ferret in my pocket and trying to bolt at least a couple.

Malc - apparently we are coming to see you? Going to give them English bunnies a bashing, apparently they taste better.

Dirty foreign things mate.

I know it's going to sound bad, but i always get a sense of satisfaction from hunting English rabbits??? Although i've noticed that they are easier to catch and generally weaker

It don't sound bad to me mate. Maybe it's an ancestral, emotional throwback to the days of cross border raiding? ;)

Malt - i think you hit the nail on the head mate, everytime we go rabbiting there, i have to remind myself that these days we have to leave their herds and daughters a lone.

Malc - we're looking forward to seeing you as well mate, i'm sure the day will be a laugh mate, and the bunnies are a good bonus on top. IS it ok for me to bring the cripple dog? You might be right about there being less rabbits in Wales, the numbers are definatly thin on the ground, well, apart from in my freezer!:thumbs:

Sound mate, he's a little b*****d, but he's handy. Realised today though, that i think the last bang has kind of f****d him a bit, seems to be a bit weak on the one leg, where he hit the wrist, so he has lost pace on the longer runs, still a lot faster than me around the nets though.

You want me tr bring some ferrets?

Your wife sounds handy, if she can lay nets i'll take her back over the border quick sharp!

I hear ort has become a proper p***y and bought himself a van? Carboot buddy? Got to be a story there?
