marshman 7,757
Cheers lads for your opinions ! To be fair lads t I dont think the fella coming to collect the pup would crib about dropping his dog in, he seem a straight enough bloke! It was just my mate who's giving him the pup thought that if we took him out on permission that weve not done much digging on , and he fired his dog in a right old dungeon . He might think we was trying to tuck him up and trying to get his dog to fail! Like I said my argument was I'm not asking him to put his dog were I'm not willing to put mine regardless of depth or size!!! I think the best way to Cary on is to explain to the bloke that we've not done much digging on this place before , and then the balls in his court . Then if he doesn't fancy it I'll put my dog in! As for my mate take it from me his no bottle job with his own dogs, he'll be the first to let his dog go! That's what I couldnt make out why he was worrying about his mate what's coming to collect the pup. I suppose he was thinking he didn't want to offend him ! Atb M Quote Link to post

Waz 4,262
Ive had it done to me, the most recent was a small old time quarry in the middle of woods, plenty of sand kicked out and only 2 entrances. Bitch was in and after a few hours at about 4m we dug her out, she was not with the game, and had blocked herself in I think. Collared up a mates crossbred teckel terrier (who can be called out) and seconds before we put him in the bank collapsed. Then the fella told us he had invited a few other fellas out previous and they had refused to enter a dog in there. A cnut.... so we had a bit of grub and he told us he will take us to a better place, of we goes, half the sette looked ok but a few tubes went into a steep bank. After the palava of the morning I said I wont be putting one of mine in. So my mate collared up one of his fox terriers and then him and his brother went below, no sight or sound of them. After lots of listening half hour later 1 of the lads with his ear on the bar reckons he can hear them out in the wood on the top of the bank......... Switch box on and it reads 4. something...... Now these doubled up brothers are not inclined to stay too long, ok if you are digging 1.5 or so, but 4. ???? id not be confident in the staying. Half hour wait and 1 of them shows and is caught up, the other is still heard at it. 15 minutes later and he showed.... Then our host tells us of an easy spot Cnut. I am in the motor and away. (was near on 2 hour trek) A week later was digging near to me, and an old boy shows up into his late 70's and a digging man in his day, I tells him about this place last week, and he says avoid it like the plague! Another time, I wont go into to much detail, but.... the hosts had been harassing the game left right and centre, and hardly ever getting to dig their quarry, due to a few different reasons, inexperience and maybe the dogs. Anyway, I took some young dogs who had only seen the end of digs, needed some time spent on them. So.. in and out in and out, just investigating scent, not really searching. So collars up the hosts dog and into the bank he goes... gets a mark of 5m. Ok looks like we arent going anywhere for a few hours at least LOL. Dog shows once and you can see he has been upto his game, back in, same spot 5m. Then shows again,. Abandoned...... Well no problem shit happens, I did hear a different version of events, which leaves me . Quote Link to post
rexdigger 54
It's upto the bloke who owns the dog if he tips in or not but like people say if he chooses not to tip In because it might be deep then I would question his mettle as a terrierman the only time I leave stuff in holes is when it's too dodgy to dig not cos it's too deep or might be stiff going also I would never ask a man to put his dog where I wouldn't put mine Quote Link to post
