munster man 118
ye they are good bushing dogs do they generally give good tongue in cover? No mate their not noted for giving tongue and its classed as a fault in the gundog circles. my mate allways gave tounge they wher good bushers The ones i have had for over 25 years have all been good bushers but hardley make a sound [bANNED TEXT] working thick cover though some of them give the odd yip not like terriers that will give tongue. thanks for the advise lads,it sounds like the best of both worlds to me,ill be able to keep track of the pup i give him to see his progress and ill get a bushing dog aswell.iv never had a dog for cover just lurchers and im thinking i could be missing out on alot of sport while out mooching about and at least i wont have to worry about a springer going to ground on me. whin 463
terriers are fun but can do your head in if they go on terrier mode, some make real good marking dogs keeps i prefer the old lurcher for bushing or spaniel Quote Link to post
Born Hunter 17,763
Just thought I would add my pup. 15 month old bred from two handy earth dogs. I would be lost without her now, real handy dog for me, rough shooting, beating and bushing. She retrieves and has found and retrieved many a pricked rabbit already, also retrieves from water. Not too much of a b*****d like most terriers either, quite biddable. Hopefully get her entered to her true job later in the season, shes keen enough! 1 Quote Link to post

Born Hunter 17,763
nice bitch just hope she doesnt change qaurry in rabbity bits mate Shouldnt be a problem, I've dug to her farther many times and he was worked the very same way. He would only bush rabbit, never give them a second glance to ground, he knew his job and did it well. But we will see... Quote Link to post

Rory4 267
If i was after a pure busher I wouldnt mind trying a cocker with dash terrier to hopefully add voice, not losing to ground and keep obedience of spaniel. Ive got a young beddy bitch nearly 6months been bushing and opening up since 4 months but goes completely deaf when on scent, which drives me insane already but is great to watch her hunt and hear her open up and watch the lurchers react.
