declining brown hare

Recommended Posts

Having returned to the game after a fifteen year break, I have noticed a big decline, on my permission, years ago I could regularly put up five hares in the one field, I have been over my ground a few times recently, and all I have seen is one Hare,

The thing I have noticed, in my area is the big rise in the Buzzard population, years ago they were rare but not any more, I don't know to much about them, but would they kill Leverets? if yes, then this may be the cause in my back of the woods.

Does anyone else think that Buzzards are a part of the problem?

Ive seen them lift them on more than one occasion.

According to the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (and other conservation organisations), the big decline in Brown Hare numbers started in the late 1950's early 60's, due mostly to the reduction

the big hare drives and shoots on estates doesnt help when they are shot in theyre hundreds.

overshooting, changing farming practice, increases in fox, badger and buzzard and too many lads running them, game dealers paying £5 a head for them, what the hell is in their favour.

Recover!!! ffs I recon over 20 on 20 acres is a plague!

Seem to remember being told by an old farmer something along the lines of.

2 rabbits eat as much as a hare, 5 hares eat as much as a sheep, 3 sheep eat as much as a cow.

also 10 rabbits eat as much as a sheep but only convert it into a quarter of the meat.

Simple to get the hares back in good numbers

Step 1,get all your local shooters together and hold a Buzzard shoot.

Step 2,after the Buzzard shoot arrange all the shooters in a big circle[bigger the better] and get each one to shove his barrel up the next blokes arse and pull the trigger.

Problem solved.

If I am not mistaken are not buzzards protected like all birds of prey? :nono:

Its also a bit of a no no to point a gun at someone!

There is however a law passed in 2005 that made hare coursing illegal !!! :whistling:

Nowt illegal about shooting hares. :tongue2:

typical response from a shooter im all right jack f**k everyone else so much to all hunters sticking together
