morton 5,368
In my locality the farmers are that sick of lampers doing damage and killing sheep, spring, summer and autumn, its to cold and wet for a lot of them in winter, that they let shooters on the land to shoot all ground game and anything else that lives below.I picked an hare up last week, dumped in a gateway with a bullet hole through its ribs, the shooter was probably doing the farmers bidding,i don,t have a problem with that, but dumping it makes him no better than the indiscriminate sheep killing poachers. philkemp 50
The hare populations round me are a bit hit and miss but id say since ive bin at this game theres bin a lot more lads we lurchers about and theres definitly been a decline in them over the last few year but like most people think i think since the ban came in a lot more are being shot and ive sin some of the numbers took we a rifle and no wonder there on the decline theres no way they could breed at the rate they being shot its jst stupid if you ask me, wat is this goverment thinking! moonlighter 1,164
Like has already been said, it's £5 per hare head shot, so it's an easy way if making £200 a night no problem. Also it depends on the landowner/farmers view on them. I go on two large farms near me, and one farmer thinks they damage crops and wants everyone dead...and the other dosnt mind them and likes to see them. Quote Link to post
nobjerk 161
Badgers eat do the most damage here, when ever you see ripped up birds, hares or rabbits you can bet you'll find badger footprints, they will eat anything. i agree , on a patch i know the long ears are thriving when old stripey isnt around , yet on another patch which is well know locally the land owner shoots all the long ears to keep the coursers off . cant blame him when they threaten to beat him and burn things when they are challenged and he cant leave a tractor in the field without it being stripped of anything valuable. graham4877 1,181
the big hare drives and shoots on estates doesnt help when they are shot in theyre hundreds. shooter's/wankers running leverets, farming to day, the hunting act, as farmers don't need or want them on their land anymore as they are not getting the money in from coursing clubs, then the big hare shoots every year..,, But read any paper and it all down to us with dogs, got f**k all to do with some fat c**ts standing in a line shooting 300-500 a day!! And how long has that been going on?????????? along time, but theirs even more getting shot now! Quote Link to post
dodger 2,765
of course reinstate it under licence like salmon fishing lobster catching gover ment get money guys get there sport Whin if the Goverment said to Course Hares or Hunt Foxes you had to have Landowners Permission and a Hunting Licence surely thats better than where we are at. Surely it would also be better for the Hare the Fox as it would be managed more efficently.# Say the Goverment charged 25-35 pounds per year for a Hunting Licence that generates a Healthy sum. All the Coursing Clubs would reform creating Jobs and protecting the Hare in the Process. Same for Hunting. Its a Win Win situation. Habitat. Hares. Foxes, Jobs. More money for Goverment in the Coffers. Kids Off Streets. I could go on, we know it makes sense can those in Power work it out. I doubt it. Quote Link to post

You can only shoot whats there mate and these places that shoot these numbers do it year in year out without any dents to the hare population. Its a money making business, they wont wipe out there income. 1 Quote Link to post

Did the farmers get paid for coursing on there ground before the ban came in? If they did i never knew that. I dont actaully have running dogs myself mate but i really like it and have friends that do it. I dont have the land to warrant having a dog....maybe someday... Quote Link to post

I suppose they still wanted an income then so letting teams of guns shoot them would still generate that....good for them but maybe not so good for the hare. Still think a change in farming had a massive effect.......and as others have said the increase in BOP's would have a serious effect to an animal that spends alot of its time out in the open...
