graham4877 1,181
the big hare drives and shoots on estates doesnt help when they are shot in theyre hundreds. shooter's/wankers running leverets, farming to day, the hunting act, as farmers don't need or want them on their land anymore as they are not getting the money in from coursing clubs, then the big hare shoots every year..,, But read any paper and it all down to us with dogs, got f**k all to do with some fat c**ts standing in a line shooting 300-500 a day!! And how long has that been going on?????????? along time, but theirs even more getting shot now! You can only shoot whats there mate and these places that shoot these numbers do it year in year out without any dents to the hare population. Its a money making business, they wont wipe out there income. very true mate, but alot of keepers are shooting just to stop dog's, its a fact theirs alot more getting shot now because the farmers have no need for them now coursings gone! I know you shoot but also run dog's so i'm sure your sick to death just like me and other lads of getting the blame form the papers and police saing they are endangered , because of the big bad lurcher, Its a shame that the media have decided to use the lurcherman as the enemy, sad really. Did the farmers get paid for coursing on there ground before the ban came in? If they did i never knew that. I dont actaully have running dogs myself mate but i really like it and have friends that do it. I dont have the land to warrant having a dog....maybe someday... yes mate some did, few round here made a canny liven out of them!! Well i never knew that. I suppose they still wanted an income then so letting teams of guns shoot them would still generate that....good for them but maybe not so good for the hare. Still think a change in farming had a massive effect.......and as others have said the increase in BOP's would have a serious effect to an animal that spends alot of its time out in the open... Them famers round here will do out for ££££, Its alot of things thats doing them no good, old lepus got a bad deal with the ban!! my dig at shooting was about them shooting 300-500 but us lurcher lads getting the blame for them being on the decline Quote Link to post

kenny14 656
I'm suprised no one has yet mentioned one other reason why farmers want Hares controlled - the damage they do to crops. Claims on how much they eat differ slightly, but it's generally stated that 2-3 Hares eat as much as one Sheep. Therefore if 300 Hares are living on an estate, then that estate can support 100 less Sheep, unless expensive supplementary feed is provided. Quote Link to post
Richie10 345
Hare is better to eat than rabbit imo. 1 Quote Link to post
whin 463
this carry on about hares eating this and that is alot of cod there would be gys out there give there left habd to course and pay legitimate to run them off the land and catch a few we used to have hare shoots localy not now to many unwanted pests do enough damage ,a ahare is a great athelete and had some great days pursuing them here and jack rabbits in the states ,some of my nest days has been coursing next to bolting rabbs sport for kings , Quote Link to post
PoshPikey 560
Kenny - that stat about how much they eat used to get bandied around the beagling comunity. I call bullshIt. 1 sheep weighs a tonne more than 3 hares. Hares refect, sheep dont, compared to how much crop is lost to disease, other pests, poor farming etc - the hares have a neglible effect on crops in most areas. Even in forestry if the trees are properly sleeved then they are not to blame. Quote Link to post
sthelens hunter 73
theres only one thing thats f*****g the hare population up and thats the same thing thats f*****g the deer and fox population up, GUNS. i remember when the ban came in and hunting with dogs changed to rats and rabbits the local butchers and game dealers had more head shot hares in them than i can ever remember seeing. According to the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (and other conservation organisations), the big decline in Brown Hare numbers started in the late 1950's early 60's, due mostly to the reduction in agricultural diversity through intensified farming methods. Nationally, Brown Hare have been increasing since the 1980's and the introduction of agri-environment schemes (the increase has continued since the ban). This trend applies to Roe too. So overall, neither the Hare or Deer populations of the UK can be said to be f***ed up by GUNS, so please can we all stop blaming each other. The antis out there must love it when they read such negative and false remarks made by one fieldsportsman about another. its the pricks with guns who shot them all at altcar once the waterloo cup finished 1 Quote Link to post
