My dad had lurcher's and i was out lamping as a nipper, had my own first border terrier at around 10 years old, bred my first litter at around 12. I currently run two lurcher's, and am from a family that live and breath dogs for generations.....My great granddad bred greyhounds and my grandfather kept and trained working GSDs.

But that all means bugger all, its about being out there hunting and kennel management of the lurchers, terriers, hounds and ferrets that breeds experience.

I have met plenty of people who have had dogs for 30-40 years, but the type of person they are is what makes there experience good or bad not the length of time they have had dogs or how much permission they have :big_boss: , have they learned from there mistakes? are they boasting, big headed sorts? Have they learned from there mistakes?

f**k me you can own a car all your life and still not know much about them??? :big_boss:

Good hunting

My great grand father had lurchers and he and my grandfather had Greyhounds for both coursing and racing. It then skipped a generation.

I started with a 3/4 Whippet 1/4 Bedlington at the age of fourteen. I kept and ran Whippet types into my early twenties. Eventually I got very disillusioned with them, always tearing themselves on wire and such. I then bought a very Greyhoundy Collie bred pup from a friend that turned out to be OK, but had bad feet. It was at this point that i decided I wanted something altogether tougher and so plumped for my first Beardie half cross.

I had a enforced break from dogs for about two years after the ex ##### decided I was surplus to requirements. I wasn't permitted to keep dogs where I was living, mores the pity.

I've owned two lurcher to lurcher crosses both from the same breeder. The first was an absolute belter, a real blood and thunder merchant. A hell of a Hare dog in her and not a drop of Saluki blood in her veins. The second, though a very good hunter had some what of a dodgy temperament, far to sensitive even for me.

And so now after 21 years of rabbiting, coursing, digging, (I've had a couple of terriers too, one excellent little bitch, one not so) Ferreting and lamping I'm sticking with Beardie bred dogs. I'm picking the latest addition up this weekend.

My first was 10 years ago when i was 14, died at 3 year old with distemper. cracking whipetxgrey threw back to whipet though and was only 21 inches fast as feck and rarely missed a bunny. Got one here now beddy x at 6 yrs old good rabbiter and got plenty of guts for other things. And also got 1 3yr old bullx who jibbed the other week and is on the short list to go. So wouldnt say i'm experienced and learn every time i go out, most mistakes are mine not the dogs.
