highlander 0
When I was growing up I wasnt allowed a dog because my mum and dad worked too much. But my baby sitters son had two lurchers and a terrier and he used to take me out mooching with him when I was about 10 he would let me walk the dogs and I used go for a mooch with them. Then when I went to college to do gamekeeping at 16 I bought a spaniel and a terrier. Then as years have passed I got a few more now I have 4 terriers. I always wanted a lurcher cos I go hunting most weekends and wanted one of my own now I have two Bullx's one 20 months and one 6 months its only took me to the age of 23 to get one.. I love just being able to get the water proofs on and get the lamp out the cupboard and head off in to the darkness nothing beats it. Quote Link to post

Guest Frank
Got into it in 91 till 98, then had a break from it, as my work, as a badger controler was very demanding. ( under government permit) Got back into it last june and am well into it now. Frank. Quote Link to post
juckler123 707
Where i was a kid your mam sent you off with a bottle of water and a jam sarnie and us lads would bird nest use a catapult and rabbit most days and eat anything we got cooked on a fire. First dog i owned was a smooth fox terrier we would chase a rabbit to ground then let the dog dig it out. saw my first lurcher at eleven yrs old and we all used to take him out as he was a roamer, some good memories buckets full of duck and plovers eggs learnt to snickle and then eventually owning me own jukel in total forty years and still get a kick out of going out did have a break for eight years and got into pits and bandogs but still went dragnetting, longnetting and birding when there was too many lurchers about thank god the craze has passed not many folks running dogs in my area now so theres plenty of game and no hassle Quote Link to post

J Darcy 5,871
Well, from as pretty much as soon as i could open my eyes theres always been a lurcher and terrier knocking about. The love affair with hunting dogs is lifelong...But i'll tell you one thing, i was in my twenties before i knew what i wanted in a a dog, and a while later before i got what i wanted.....JD Quote Link to post
kvnmcwebn 0
Just got a small lurcher last month and thats the first one for me. I got a terrier by accident 4 years ago, someone i did work for gave it to me..first time it flushed a fox out in front of me i was hooked. Im basically still a messer just chasing things about. Still dont really know what im doing but have learned a lot about dogs and also loads about the native wildlife here which is cool. Quote Link to post
JollyPoacher 3
Had my first Whippet at seven and caught the bug in a big way (Lilly was a strong fawn bitch -who picked it up fast, as my father said "a natural dog will make a dog trainer out of anyone"), but then moved about alot after leaving home with work etc so had a break of nearly 20 years without any dogs Back in the game now but cant help feeling I lost a lot time, still learning something new everyday. A day without the dogs is a day wasted. Quote Link to post
brookie 1,193
ive had lurchers 40 yrs now i remember my first lamping trip me and my mate pinched his grand dads battery of his old triumph motor bike and got an old car head lamp and held the lead on to the terminal on the back of the head light to put the light on and off Quote Link to post
