well my family have had them as long as i have known my dad is 74 and still has lurchers , i was lucky to own my 1st at 12 in 1971 a greyhound collie x foxhound what a dog,so i suppose i could be classed as an experianced lurcher owner, and would never do without 1 are 2

since i was 16 im now almost 22 , so thats almost 6 years , my step dad has always shot with a shot gun and he has been with my mother for 12 years , so ive sort of always been around hunting ect , only i left the labs and shotgun behind when i got my own place and ventured out into the running dogs alone as he doesnt do that sort of hunting , , my 1st running dog was 3/4 bred whippet bedlington which i still have now , wouldnt change her for the world .

Got my first lurcher, Blue, off a mates dad when i was 18 and because my mam and dad aren't keen on dogs i had to keep it in my mates yard but it went everywhere with me and that got me obsessed with dogs and hunting like i am today 7 years on. I'll be the first to admit i am really quite inexperienced though. Learning every time i take the dogs out and i've got my first pups now so i am starting from the beginning which is good.

There's no point lying and claiming to know it all as so many people do as you will just get found out wont you!!

I have a few lads that i go out with that have had dogs years and are doing the business so the oldest pup comes out all the time when i go out with them for the older dogs to show mine the ropes, i've got plenty of books and the forums to extract usefull info from and i enjoy EVERY time i go out with the dogs.

 

spot on stevo , everyone is learning , its a constant process , the worlds full of infomation , no one knows it all , , i myself am looking forward to learning all i can , still got a hell of alot , taking it all in slowly and getting there

I had my first running dog at 16 years old,had them up to 99,concentrated on the terriers up to 2004.Due to family illness had to break from dogs for 2 years, getting back into it again.so overall had lurchers over 20 years.

Had my first lurcher a t the age of 21 his name was Butch and he cost £12 got him from a bloke in Dartford Kent who was known as Caveman,Butch was a Collie /Saluki xGrey,a very fast athletic dog ,unfortuanately he succombed to Parvo at the tender age of 18 months,no one knew much about the new disease,Cat vaccine was just being tried as an antidote,too late for my boy. Ive had running dogs for 37years,in my 20s and 30s ,I thought I knew quite a bit about them,now Im 58,Im amazed how much I can and do still learn,its been a long journey ,but Im glad I bought a ticket!

I GOT AN EX TRACK GREYHOUND WHEN I WAS ABOUT TEN,NEW NOTHING ABOUT DOGS(STILL DONT) I USED TO TAKE IT DOWN AN OLD RAILWAY LINE TO CHASE RABBITS,POOR THING GOT RAN OVER.I THEN GOT A JRT AND GOT INTO FERRETING AT ABOUT 14 OR 15, THEN THE AIR GUNS CAME ALONG,THEN THE SHOT GUNS AND FISHING HAD TERRIERS UP UNTIL LAST YEAR.I GOT MY FIRST LURCHER 5 1/2 YEARS AGO (WOODY) HE`S MY BEST PAL A SALUKI CROSS HE`S DONE ME PROUD SO TIMID AND SHY BUT TOTALLY BURSTS INTO LIFE WHEN DOING WHAT HE AND I LOVE,AND IVE ALSO GOT A 5 MONTH OLD BULL CROSS PUP WHO IS A TOTAL MENTALIST,IM NOW 33 SO STILL A NEWBIE TO RUNNING DOGS,I DONT THINK I WILL EVER BE WITHOUT THEM NOW ITS TOTALLY IN MY BLOOD.

HAD TERRIERS JUST OVER 30 YRS AND LURCHERS JUST UNDER 30 YRS ,,,,,,, HAD FERRETS SLIGHTLY LONGER FROM BEING A NIPPER ............. AND ENJOYED EVERY MINUTE OF IT
