3175darren 1,100
Hi I myself have a young austrialian cattle dog bred lurcher, only 7 months can anyone tell me anything about the breed, what are there traifs, good bits and bad please,I wont to know what they are like to hunt with, this one has alot of prey drive I havnt used him yet, going to start him over nets and keep him at that till 14/18 months old before open runs, I cant seem to find any Info on this cross dispite being told they are becoming popular Quote Link to post
wild rover 548
Where did you get the cattle dog pup from 3175 Darren, you should find your lurcher easy to train, loyal but if its a dog maybe a little stubborn at times until you stamp your authority on it. depending on what cross as to what size it will make, this will determine its mental and physical maturity and readiness for work. Make sure you have all your usual training done, sit, recall and retrieving and anything you will need for ferreting, break it to ferrets and learn it some fieldcraft. Try reading and trying this for advice on lamping, STARTING_A_LAMPING_PUP.doc You may find as the pup matures it shows a guarding or protective side, this can be shown against strange people and dogs, but once the pup is used to them it will be fine. A photo would be good, your pup should take to whatever you introduce to it no bother, it should be strong in build, good feet with good prey drive and work tirelessly. Quote Link to post
