Tyla 3,179
Myself, Blackstaff and his boy Bailey had our first day out today. We took my old faithful Parker and my pup Willow along with my four jills. We were doing a bit of ground i picked up this year, its a big house with its own small estate, mainly polo ponies - very nice. We started on a problem area around the tennis court and it was slow but steady, not many rabbits to ground which is odd as I've seen good numbers there before on numerous occasions. There is a large area of woods over the road, also on permission, that i've not been in yet which may hold the answer. We moved on from there to do a nightmare bury, on the side of another wood, a 50 yard long bury with hundreds of holes bisected by two parallel stock fences. Cover was a mixture of thick thorn bushes and a bit of bamboo - lovely! We ran long nets where we could, worked all the ferrets and hoped for the best. Blackstaff and Bailey had the crap job inside the wood with Parker keeping track of the ferrets and dealing with the nets and bolters while Willow and I chilled on the field side! We had a fair few from there and a little dig. By the time we'd picked up the nets and half a woods worth of twigs we'd had enough of nets. We left them and went to a hedgerow for a bit of bolting for the dogs, all went well enough with a good run each, both missed until we got to a little bury where the rabbits didnt want to budge. After some crawling about in the hedge with the box we found both jills on seperate rabbits. While Blackstaff was in the hedge without the camera one bolted giving the best photo opportunity of the day. Parker ran it all across the field but somehow didnt connect. Eventually we pinpointed the other ferret 5 foot down under a rootball, after a bit of fruitless digging we finally got the ferret out, very bloody, but never found the rabbit. Ended the day on 12 rabbits and a hopper. Not too bad but hard work. Im back to the same ground tomorrow bushing. No doubt Blackstaff will add photos to this in his own sweet time lol! Tyla 3,179
Im just about to text Blackstaff to get the pics up, lazy swine lol. I expect hes taken more today as hes out again. Just got back from bushing the same place with herdwick, not the ideal place for the terriers, too much stock fencing, but it was a nice walk. We ended up with two rabbits, one to Willow and one to herdwicks Snuff. Quote Link to post
