bird 9,932
Thanks all, ive always fancied a beddie lurcher, and the bed/whippet/grey does tempt me. My current lurcher can really turn it on when she's in the mood, but thats just the problem....if theres not much happening she just goes and finds a stick to play with. I am used to collie lurchers, but my previous one had some beardie in him and he was a much better hunter than the one i have at the moment, he would happily work further away from me, where as my current border collie/grey wont hunt very far away from me, constantly going only 20 yards away and then coming back to me to send her away again. How do you find the temperament of beddie lurchers? And how do you find their recall? Cheers i am not keen beddy lurchers, as ive said on (your 1st lurcher) post, you right with border colliexs they are to robtic in they ways, it pisses me of, would not have dog with to much collie in again, 1/4 is plenty. you ever though of a gsd xgrey, would be just as clever but ( not so manic) in there temp. just a thought, its a x i would really think about for the future Quote Link to post
Fat-Ferret 857
For the rabbit job...This young bitch has become my favourite, only about 20", but definitely better at it than my bigger dogs. Edited October 15, 2011 by Fat-Ferret 1 Quote Link to post
darbo 4,776
the ones i have seen have had great temperaments. my mate had them over 30 years. as for training can be hard headed and tend to throw a deaf one. but put plenty of work into the recall early doors .what you put in you can get out.i have a pure beddie early days he was hard work training wise but he came round in time. what i like about the beddy crosses i have seen ie bed/whipp bed/grey bed/whippet grey was their hunting up ability/nose work and these types really did try to catch. good luck with your choice. whatever you choose. I am still tempted with lurcher to lurcher with a dash of collie in it. I am a bugger for a good recall, thats the only thing that worries me with a beddie lurcher. Hadnt thought about gsd/gry, its an idea, but i think i would have to have some whippet in there. Cheers Quote Link to post

Cheers well everthing you want in a lurcher, the beddyx didnt have , they can be very stubborn type of dog with recall bringing back game hunting up you name it they aint a good x with whats about with other xs, even my bullxs have been better with the above things. You dont need alot of collie as i said 1/4 is enough , or 1/4 gsd just as good but not to sensitve , temp../ Quote Link to post
Moll. 1,770
Finally the wife has given in to me, it took some some time, but now i have the go ahead to add another dog to the team. I mainly hunt rabbits in the day time, bushing with the two terriers to the lurcher. My lurcher (collie/greyhound) is now nine. I'm going to get a another one some time in 2012. Most of my catches are in small fields so the dog needs to be quick with good strike for the rabbits and capable of an occasional longer course. It is also very important that it works hard to find its quarry (as there not much about) with good nose. Im open to all lurchers, but ideally below 23 or below........So any pics or suggestions/ advice will be greatly recieved. Not everyone's idea of a quick off the mark rabbiting dog but i had a bull x grey bitch, under 23". As loyal and obedient as they come with a massive heart. Bushed like a terrier, explosive turn of speed, and had the added bonus of being able to hunt roe/fox if the opportunity arose. So please don't dismiss this cross, they have a lot more going for them than most people think If i was ever able to clone any dog it would have been her. Quote Link to post
NEWKID 27,182
I've got a 3/4 1/4 whip beddy and she's been easy to train, good round the ferrets, good nose and works around the edge of the bushes when the terriers in, her recalls good but her retrieve is hit and miss on the lamp and she never yaps which I've heard can be a problem. Her Downside for me I wish she was a couple of inches taller, mainly for lamping it don't make much difference ferreting or bushing when she's on the rabbits instantly,I think she'll excell at ferreting and bushing but be a fun lamping dog rather than a top one. My brothers got a first x beddy whip she's got a different temp altogether a lot more terrier like, she'll enter any cover no worries a bit too hectic around the ferrets yet but I think she'll settle in time, theres a lot of work to be done on her she's really driven and uses her nose a lot sh'e only 12 months and not really matured yet again never heard her yap. Between the pair of them I think 1/4 beddys enough for me as I prefer her steadiness. Good luick in your search mate. Quote Link to post

I think once Christmas has passed i will keep my eyes opened and see whats about, although i have just seen a litter of 3/4 whippet greyhound,1/4 Collie Kelpie on epupz that tickle my fancy, but i think i going to hold back until the new year......although im dying to phone them up.
