A good session for me, not so much for wor kid......

Recommended Posts

Hiya folks!

Well last night me n wor kid decided to hit the Cumbria permission, for 2 reasons really....we hadnt been there in 6-8 weeks and also when we checked the Met Office forecast it was the lowest wind speed at 9mph.

After a 45min drive we arrived at Midnight, only to find Mr Met Office had been lying again and the wind was swirling in all directions and gusting to 15+mph.

We done our usual zero check in the farmyard trying to get as much shelter as we could, with wor kid zeroing his scope with the scopecam on & his tracer fitted with an NV filter and myself using the NV dedicated scope. Both were spot on after a small bit of adjustment.

We always check the barn before we head off and it was no surprise to us that there were a couple of ferals in there as usual, they were soon brought to ground, 1 each was a good start to the night.

All "tooled up" and ready to go we headed off..... The place was alive with activity and thew wind was in my face, great advantage along with the NV as long as I moved slowly I could get right up to them and it wasnt long before I had my first 2 in the bag....

As I was close to the gate I hung them for collection on the way back to the van...

Wor kid came on the radio....he hadn't seen much but for what he had seen he was having trouble hitting them.....wind maybe??

I carried on and after 20 or so minutes landed another 3, one of which was caught by the wind and injured it so I had to do the 35yd dash to despatch it quickly..... This wind was getting stronger and beginning to be a pain!!

The one I had to despatch.... sorry folks....but it does happen!!

Then came another 3 in quick succession....

I collected the ones off the gate and made my way back to the van where wor kid was having a cuppa waiting, I had 8 & 1 feral in total so far, how many did wor kid have??...... 1 Feral!!!

Something was up!!....He wasnt his normal self!...Normally we're on par with each other give or take one or two!

A quick reload and cuppa saw us back out within 30mins.

I made my way to the warrens on the hill with the wind now blowing from right to left and gusting up to 20mph if not more it was proving difficult to keep the rifle still from both standing and kneeling shots so the next ones for me were all done off the bipod with 2 mildots windage correction...

It came to the point where it was getting so bad we both couldnt guarantee correct shot placement so we decided to call it an early night.

I managed another 3 making my tally 11 with wor kid just getting the one feral.....Not a good night for him, although we think we discovered his problem....the scopecam was moving when attached to the back of his scope which I think could have caused parallax error and him aiming high along with compensating for the wind produced misses of which I'm sure he'll add his footage.

and a little footage...

Good shooting Darryl,

I can Sympathize with Gary as Scope cam is a hellava lot harder to do compared with scope shooting, and if the cam was moving with the Wind :icon_eek::blink::huh:

When i was out shooting only got 2 compared with my shooting Buddy who got 8 as he didn't have to Faff with the Cam. :icon_redface:

Nice work Darryl, but it's good to know that even top shots have the sh!te sessions
