Ferreting yesterday

We went out yesterday to do a four acre garden ,Once we got there we where told there's a rabbit with a white streak down its face and shoulder the wife says kill that one at your peril . The dog was pushing rabbits out the cover and they where going into the six foot gorse over the boundry fence so i thought we might get a few if we can find the burrows we ended up with eight out the burrows we could find including one huge buck i didn't weigh him but its the biggest rabbit ive seen for a few years with only one two foot dig i was happy as due to the cover and missing holes we could of got a round dozen but they will be there another time .

 

Going home i crossed over to another bit of permission and told the estate manager id changed my car and he said theres rabbits in the bosses walled garden (this was a bit im no allowed near ) so we went for a look and the lurcher bolted the first one from under one of those wee trimmed box hedges right into a burrow under a 100 year old yew arch (The owners pride and joy) Ferret in and a two foot mark under the concrete path in the middle of this thing five minutes later it bolts into a border and is coursed out over there rabbit proof fence .

The next one the dog bolts she courses into a old stone built pigeon shed i crawled in but the rabbit was in one of the holes in the wall the pigeons where ment to nest in but this one goes right into the wall and i couldn't reach the rabbit :laugh:

The dog bolted another one and we walked ,chased it to the gate and just when we thought we where finally going to get one it wriggled out the corner between the gate and the wall :laugh:

The dog couldnt find any more which was just as well as i was in stitches and the estate manger said thank F*ck he's had us walking round and round here trying to chase them out at least i can tell him there gone ,but hes away to Russia till the fifth of November can you come back with a shotgun and check it again .

So only eight rabbits but what a day and what a laugh
