PLEDGEY 496
You hear some people talk about Firearms officers like they are people to be feared. I have to say that the one that does my area is brilliant. He's very reasonable, to the point, gives you information when you want it and from my first dealings with him i have never had a problem. I had to meet him last Tuesday to look over a farm i had just got permission to shoot. There was one area he said he didn't want me to shoot, due to the M5, but i knew that anyway so that was fine. What do other people think?. Do you like your FAO or do you see him as 'the one to be feared'. Quote Link to post

fenton88 6
Mine was spot on when he came to do my SGC interview, and gave me good advice about where to go for gun, and various clubs around. Although he did say my SGC would be here withing 3 weeks, 4 have now passed.... Quote Link to post
jackinbox99 41
Depends what you mean by good or bad? Ive dealt with 3 different ones and all have been very nice and friendly, certainly not bossy or up themselves. I remember when the first FAO i dealt with came around my house I wasnt sure what to expect, as previously when id dealt with policemen id found them very arrogant and up themselves, even looking down on you. But FAO`s arent like that at all. 2 of the 3 FAO`s never once checked my cabinet or guns, they just came around as part of the SGC renewal, had a quick chat and that was it. When really id have expected them to check the cabinets location and things like that. My current FAO when I first met him, he wanted to see the cabinet, check it was secure and even checked out each one of my guns to make sure they matched with what was listed on the SGC - so he was much more thorough. All in all, from my experience they seem very nice people, obviously doing a job they enjoy doing and are keen to help others enjoy their guns. Quote Link to post
walshie 2,804
Mine (met Police) is very friendly and easy to talk to. If i have a question, I phone him on his mobile, or if he's not available, I email him and he phones me as soon as he is can. He has managed to answer all my varied questions first time. TWOTWOTHREE 152
Never had a problem with them, had dealings with two or three different ones over the years They have been helpfull and answered questions and given sound advice,up until my last renewal it was a quick look at the cabinet a cup of tea and sorted, this time he checked the guns in the safe corresponded to the cert and that was that, just wish they didn't take so long with variations,6 weeks ago they received it,I'm only having a calibre put back on it which I've had before so it's not a lot of work I imagine, after a phone call to admin she said I would be lucky to get it back before Santa comes, seem to be low on ammo now as a result,Also im sick checking the post box for it and finding bills instead lol. matt_hooks 188
It seems to be the case that the FEO is ok, very helpful and friendly, but that they don't have much power or decision making ability. My FEO told me that he was there simply to collect evidence and info to pass to the decision makers at HQ, who don't seem quite so good/knowledgable/friendly/helpful. Quote Link to post
airbourne 128
still waiting on mine to come and see me for my open ticket, applyed november, at the end of the day they have got a job. Most if not all are sound people. Quote Link to post
lapin2008 1,587
As above, nothing but positivity from them. In order to do that job they will most likely be fairly pro hunting and onboard with the need for pest management etc Quote Link to post
The Duncan 802
Mines a nice lady clayshooter. Very helpful, but knows cack all about rifles. Reckoned .223 was the max calibre allowed for CWD Quote Link to post
