Guest vin
hello all. I posted this yesterday in the ferreting reports section...but it applies to my dog just as much if not more really. just got in from a nice long walk and good old mooch about.. its the 1st time this year the 2 new jill kits i got earlier in the year have been out.. 1st set was an old warren in a wood, there was fresh droppings but the dog did not mark it up..i put them in just to see how they behaved in and out of the holes etc etc..they were like ducks to water and went through it like a pair of old pros. So i took them further down the wood and found a nice little 5 hole warren,The dog was marking well.So i popped one down..2 mins nothing then out she came further down the set..So i popped her back in with the otehr one behind her.. 30 secs later bang 1st one in the net and dog went over and held it for me whilst i tangled with the ferrets. I then moved onto a couple more older sets and let them have a run through even though there was not strong mark from the dog..i just wanted to make sure they wernt gonna be dancing and fraking about on the job,and they were very good, very well behaved. One of them is like a tasmanian devil and just goes mad for it whilst the other one os slower and more carefull..perfect little team..lol On the way back to the car the dog marked a hole right under a bramble bush on a stream...I was thinking...oh no not all that ferking bramble..but the dog was telling me to have a look..so i crawled under the bushes and into the stream and netted the 1 hole i could see and dropped a fert in...20 secs..one hit the cover 10 yards down the hedge from a bolt hole i couldnt have seen..followed by the ferret..dog ran over and ferret went back down...next thing I could hear anither one banging around on the move...dogs ready,,im ready..2 mins pass..and bang it hits the 1 net i had onand rolls down into stream out of net and off across the field followed by dog..who somehow managed to catch up and turned it back to the hedge..it shot through and dog followed and she caught it in mid air as it jumped the stream..Perfection ! ferret out and net off...climbed out of stream and back onto field as dog made her way back with the rabbit.. it all happened so fast but the dog was on the ball and did a spectacular catch.. I could, dnt ask for anything more.. On inspection the ferret had been having a little nibble on its forehead and it managed to bolt it form a head on stop by the looks of things.. all in all a bloody good result for me in a place where theres very few rabbits about anyway.. 1st of many good days to come hopefully. PS...she came good again on the lamp also..i think she just was having one of those crazy nights..but ive been doing everything alone with her and with no other dogs to get confused with..seems to be working. trigger2 3,137
your dog seems to be taking to ferreting quite nicely by the sounds of of it. i see she also seems to have sorted herself out on the lamp aswell, as i said before there could have been any number of reasons why she wasnt on form in the lamp and it was just a off day.
