Recommended Posts

right been trying out just about every thing in the last week and shes still not responding to commands so am getting a shot of one of these static collars to see if i can get her ears working, strange thing is shes been bringing her toys to me with out me asking her over and over again she just wants to play 24/7, just threw her big plastic burger at me as am typing this, but hope she comes good cause she will make an awesome hunter, very very fast and strong as a ox ,she does,nt get walked with any of the other dogs at the moment cause its not helping her on lead when there running around, hopefully in part 3 of the saga i will have some positive news.

Our pup does the same thing to husband when he is on forum too long, comes up with toys and if that doesnt work she trys to physically remove him from chair!! As you said she is a pup and as with kids they all take differant times to learn. Our latest was a :censored: to house train when we had no problem with the first and used same methods, however the pup wanted to work at 7 months and was not satisfied to sit and watch, the first one wasnt really interested for the first year of her life? Cant remember if you said on you last post if you take any of these toys out with you when walking? If she is bringing them to you in house she may do the same outside to encourage her back? :hmm: Worth a go, personally cant stand the electric shock collars, but know some people who think they work. Saw some kid on a site trying the differant levels out on himself! couldnt do it to mine.

So she's bringing her toys to you without you asking: mmm! In a nutshell, she thinks she's your boss. She's calling the shots, trying to get you to play with her when she wants you to, not the other way round. Until you make her understand that you are the boss you are always going to have a problem with the recall.

Firstly: NEVER pay her any attention unless she has earned it. IGNORE her when she comes to you with toys or even for a fuss. NEVER go to her when she is resting and give her a fuss. EVERYONE in the household must follow these rules or you won't get anywhere.

I know a lot of folk think this dog psychology stuff is bullshit, but it really works, and it means you dont' have to beat the cr*p out of a dog or shock it to get it doing things your way.

THE GOLDEN RULES.

DON'T let the dog go through any doorway before you.

DON'T feed the dog and then sit down for your meal. (This one only really applies if dog lives in house)

DON'T go to dog in its bed to stroke it. (CAll dog to you, make it sit (earning praise), THEN stroke and praise.

DON'T acknowledge dog if it comes to you for a game/fuss etc. (Ignore it completely)

DON'T let dog in your bedroom, or kids' bedrooms or anywhere upstairs. (Best to confine dog to kitchen or kennel. You can relax these rules once dog knows its place.)

Make dog sit before you give it its food. (once again: earning the reward.)

GO AND SIT in dog's bed or kennel for a bit (this is to show dog that you are boss and sit anywhere you want.)

DON'T allow dog on your furniture or on your lap. (once again, this rule can be relaxed once dog is following all the other rules, including coming when called!

DON'T let dog pull on lead. (EVery time it pulls, stop dead, don't move, wait for dog to come back next to you before you start walking again. This can take a long time especially if dog has always pulled LOL)

RECALL!!! The idea is to brain wash dog into thinking it cannot do anything other than come to you when you call it. Keep it on long lead until it is coming to you EVERY time for at least 2 weeks.!!

Put all these things together, be consistent and it will work wonders. Good luck!

put prety much all these methods in to practise she is a joy to walk on the lead very seldom pulls but ignoring her is having some efect on her i will persist with her i just know she will click, it is very hard cause she has so much energy and needs to run but cannot be trusted of the lead, i just wish i had access to big tennis court or big fenced area so she cant disapear from me.the saga go,s on.

This photo is a classic example of this pup.

The other dogs rarely need told twice. Once the black pup "izzy" is off the lead, she won't come within six feet of you.

Just got to perservere Rick. Personally don't think the collar will work with her, but worth a try.

Bollox to the collar, get a pelt and take the dog out on it's jacks, tease with the pelt then put it in your pocket ....then call the dog in from the distance you highlighted in the pic ( teasing peeky-a -boo style with the pelt in and out of your legs). This way the dog is getting familiar to the "Close" command (tie the vocalising of the word "close" to this short recall/eventually omitting the pelt) by dint of something it is pre-disposed to be intrested in (motivation) all from play and without kopping for the Hz.

did use a pelt once she got it and ate it lol
