hen sparrow hawk needs help

Recommended Posts

Ive picked up a hen sparrow hawk today whilst on my travels. It cant fly but dosnt appear to have a broken wing. its alert enough, and I need to find some where nr scunthorpe that can take care of it if possible.

Im not a raptor man, and to be fair dont know what to do. I thought it had nailed something in the rain and got water logged. Having dried her and releasing....she took off and crash landed.

Anyone local that can help ???

The only thing you can do at the moment paul is keep it quiet somehwere warm in a cardboard box overnight. does it feel sharp on its keel like the bird has gone light underweight?.

If it is this could well be why its not flying due to being weak, shame you didn't know anyone near by with some chicks you could skin back for it, even some lean pigeon breast could help it if its not too low...

if not the links below might be able to put you intouch with someone in the area who could help, Good luck with it mate ....

I found a short eared owl several year's ago with a similar problem..all's i done was stick it somewhere darkish and quiet with a gutted rat that had been ripped in half by the terrier's..when i checked on it 2hr's later it had eaten half of the rat and looked a lot brighter..but it's wing was still hanging..Moll on here took it to the local vet's and it was passed onto a rescue centre but i dont think it ever made it back into the wild as it had broke it's collarbone/wish bone..

RSPCA and RSPB are not woth a light mate..the link's that some good lad's put up are worth contacting..if you are short on fund's get her to your nearest vet but ask if it will go to a good rescue centre or the shitty RSPB..
